Memorization of the Quran - Sh.

Musleh
- True recitation is not in how beautiful you can make it sound, but rather in
your eloquence/ pronunciation of the words.
- The fitrah of a mumin is that he is naturally inclined to have love in his heart
for the Quran. Each one of us desires to be a hafidh.
- If you feel good doing the wrong thing, then this is a sign of a diseased
heart- Ibn Qayyim
- Prophet saw. will complain to Allah swt. on the DOJ O my Rabb, my people
take the Quran and they abandon it. to which Allah swt. will say Those who
abandoned it, it was right in front of them [Furqan: 30] => This is the case
with Muslims today. The Quran is on our shelves, on our phones/computers,
in our pockets, yet we have abandoned it by not reading and following.
- In order to memorize the Quran, three elements have to refined first: mind,
heart and body.

Steps to memorizing Quran [Summarized in end of Surah ale-Imran, ayah 190 - end
of Surah]
Step 1: Clear your mind. Be amongst the albaab- those whose minds are not
cluttered with filthy/unnecessary thoughts. People these days can appreciate how
true this is because our minds are constantly being cluttered with useless
information. Rid yourself of music, he said-she said, arguments and backbiting.
- Hadith: I guarantee a house in Jennah for the one who gives up arguing, even
if he is right
- Constantly remember Allah swt. while standing, sitting and while on your
side. Occupy your thoughts with Allah swt and there will be little room for
unnecessary thoughts.

Step 2: Think Quran. Whenever you are in any life situation, think about the Quran
and about how to diffuse the situation with the help of it. Program your brain to
relate everything to the Quran.

Step 3: Prepare yourself for a personal hijrah. Leave the life of disobedience for a life
of obedience and belief. Make this change in order to accept the Quran. Quran is not
a duty, and memorizing it is a life-changing commitment. Remove distractions from
your life and change your lifestyle- the way you look, act, dress, even your attitude.

Step 4: Understand that sometimes you have to give up things that arent necessarily
Haraam, but you have to give them up because they dont fit into your lifestyle.
Because you are carrying the Quran, you are forcing yourself out of a lifestyle that is
not deserving of the Quran.

Step 5: No pain, no gain. You have to constantly be on guard about what you
see/act/say.
- The Salaf would say If you have to start learning the religion, put on your
metal shoes.
- This religion is not easy. Learning the Quran isnt easy. You WILL have to
struggle to memorize it and to keep it with you.

Step 6: People who are against you, will never stop. Dont be deceived by them, nor
their numbers.

Step 7: Never ever give up. Continue as long as your heart is still beating.

Step 8: You have to be optimistic and positive first.

Step 9: *most important* Be a person of good morals, values, character and
etiquettes. Be someone who is humble, modest and be someone who is well
received in the community- someone everyone likes, appreciates and gets along
with. That, along with having a sound heart, clear mind and clear thoughts will get
you started on memorizing.

The mother of imam ash-Shafee advised him before leaving for Madinah to study
with Imam Malik: O my son, if you are going to learn the religion, learn from your
teacher the manners, before you take from his knowledge.
