Based on Flight1 ATR-72

The FMC of the ATR is very similar to Boeing FMC with the difference that it is even simpler to se!
"f we open it# we will see this page $%ote& " la'elled the
(eys of the FMC#e!g! the )eft *pper +ey is the Line
Select Key 1 Left# or short LSK1L !!!,
This first page# the so called "-.%T /age# gives s
some general Aircraft "nformation and information
a'ot the Compters -ata Base!
By pressing LSK6R# we can proceed to the ne0t
page# the so called POS REF $/osition Reference,
page! A general rle for FMC1s& "f yo want to select
something# press the )ine 2elect +ey ne0t to it!
"n or case we want to select POS REF $the small
arrow 3 is indicating that it leads to another page,
so we 4st press the (ey ne0t to it# which is LSK6R!
The POS REF /age is the /osition Reference /age! "t shows s
information a'ot or crrent position and a'ot the crrent
time of the compter system! And some other info which "
won1t e0plain here# as it1s not necessary at the moment!
"f we now clic( on ROUTE> $again via LSK6R, we get to the
ROUTE Page where we can enter some general information
a'ot or rote!

5r rote for this ttorial will 'e from .dmonton "ntl! $C6.7, to
Calgary "ntl! $C66C, and the rote loo(s li(e following $Airways
are mar(ed in 'le,&

5n the Rotepage we can enter or -epartre : -estination
Airports and the planned rnway!
5r ORIGIN is CYEG# so we enter C Y E G into the (ey'oard
and copy it onto the empty line 'eneath ORIGIN via the LSK1L
$'ecase it is the (ey ne0t to it,!
2ame applies for or DEST $destination airport,# which is
CYYC! 2o again we type C Y Y C into the (ey'oard and
copy it onto the empty lines 'eneath DEST! As LSK1R is
ne0t to that# we press it to copy it!
;e plan to ta(e-off from rnway 12 so we enter 1 2 on
the (ey'oard and press LSK2L to copy the entry to the
empty lines 'eneath RUNWAY.
%ow that we entered general rote information# we can
enter or rote!
%ote& "n the pper right corner of the display there
is the page inde0# at the moment indicating < = meaning
we are on page 1 of 2!
Beneath the display there are two (eys la'elled
PREV and NEXT! ;ith those (eys we can switch
'etween the pages! 2o for now we press %.>T to get
to the ne0t page!
This page is divided into two sections! 5n the left side
the VIA Sec!"# on the right side the TO $ec!"#! 5n
the left side yo can enter the airways on the right side
yo can enter the waypoints! First we enter or first
waypoint on the right side! The first place is already
occpied with or departre rnway $R;12, so we ta(e
the line 'eneath that!
.nter N U P P S on the (ey'oard and copy it onto the
empty lines 'eneath R;12 'y pressing LSK2R! %ow a
DIRECT will appear on the VIA $ec!"## meaning that we
will go from RW12 %!&ec " NUPPS.
5r flightplan indicates that we have to proceed from
NUPPS '!a the A( A!&)a* to the waypoint DELBR!
2o we now enter on the left side on the ne0t empty
line the airway! .nter A ( into the (ey'oard and
press LSK+L.
%ow enter the rest of the rote $"n short form&
.nter -.)BR = press )2+?R@ .nter 8977 = press )+29)@
.nter T5R5% = press )2+9R,!
5nce yo1ve entered everything press ACTIVATE ,LSK6R-
to activate the rote! A green light will come p a'ove the
EXEC +ey!
;ith this the FMC wants s to confirm that we really want to
activate the rote! /ress EXEC to confirm that! %ow the rote
will 'e active! $%ote& 6o will have to confirm all frther
modifications of the rote or flight data with the EXEC (ey,
After activating the rote the word PERF INIT will appear
ne0t to LSK6R and if we clic( on it we get to the PERF
INIT = the PERFormances INITialiAation page! Bere we can
enter or weight# fel load and several other vales!
The FMC of the Flight 1 ATR has a little gadget installed&
"f yo don1t (now the vales or don1t want to enter them
4st press the )2+1) and )2+?) with the right mose (ey
and the FMC will atomaticly read the vales from the
aircraft!
The entry Reserves $LSK.L, is for yor planned fel
reserves in tons!
5n the right side yo can enter yor planned crise
Altitde $LSK1R,! "n or case "1ve entered or crise
altitde FL1/0 $1CDDDft, 'y entering 1 / 0 and pressing
LSK1R.
After completing those entries the EXEC L!g1 will
illminate# simply press EXEC to confirm yor entries!
The rote itself is now stored in the FMC and we are
ready to fly it# 't let me give yo some additional
information! First we can define or departre:arrival
procedres $also now as SID1s and STAR1s,!
Therefore we clic( the DEP ARR (ey a'ove the display!
;ith that we get to the De2atre:A&&ival /age
5n the left side yo can define the departre procedre
for CYEG ,LSK1L- on the right side yo can define the
arrival procedre for CYYC ,LSK2R-! )et s now select
the arrival procedre for CYYC! 2o press LSK2R to
get to the arrival page for CYYC!
5n this page yo can select the rnway yo plan for the arrival
on the right side and on the left side yo can select the planed
arrival rote! First select the rnway# then yo can select the
arrival rote for the rnway on the left side! *se NEXT and
PREV (eys to switch 'etween the pages if there is more than
one! After yo selected everything# press .>.C to confirm
yor entries!
Another very vala'le page is the ).72 page! /ress the ).72-
Btton a'ove the -isplay to get to the page! 5n this page yo
can see yor crrent rote with informations a'ot the way-
points! The waypoint on the top is the crrent active waypoint
yo1re heading to! "t is highlighted in prple! 6o can also read
the distances 'etween the waypoints on the left side of the
display!
"f yo want to fly direct to a waypoint# yo simply have to copy
it to the first line! 2o lets ta(e the pictre on the right as a
reference and assme we want to go direct to T5R5%! 2o we
first copy T5R5% 'y pressing )2+9) and paste it onto the
first line 'y pressing )2+1)!
2o if yo want to copy something to the memory# press the
)2+ ne0t to it# to paste it somewhere# press the )2+ ne0t to
the position where yo want to have the stored data!
The last page " want to show yo is the PROG# the PROGRESS
page! Bere yo can also see some actal rote information!
The waypoint yo are crrently heading to is highlighted in
prple# ne0t to it yo see the distance to it and the e0pected
time of arrival!
Below that yo can see yor ne0t waypoint# with distance and
e0pected time!
And 'elow that is the total distance to yor -estination Airport
with the .TA!
Bow can the ATR fly the rote programmed into the FMC! 6o simply have to switch the navigation sorce for the atopilot! "f yo
press the V3L B4"# yo will set the atopilot for RADIO NAVIGATION5 if yo press the RNV 64"# yo will switch the atopilot to
the RNAV 7"%e! "f yo then press the NAV B4"# on the Atopilot it will follow the FMC inpts! $LNAV shold 'e indicated on the
Atopilot -isplay 2creen,
