Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College is a constituent College of Tumaini University Makumira. The college is based
at Moshi and owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania. The college trains health professionals for
various university awards in clinical and health sciences. It currently wishes to recruit one competent and committed
candidate to the post of Senior Laboratory Scientist to work under PAMVERC PROGRAM in Moshi.
Information about PAMVERC PROGRAM
PAMVERC is a collaboration between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the National
Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Tanzania. These
three institutions collaborate as the Pan African Malaria Vector Control Research Consortium (www.pamverc.or.tz), a
research alliance which develops and evaluates new malaria vector control tools. PAMVERC has trial sites in Moshi
(Kilimanjaro region), Muheza (Tanga region), Muleba (Kagera region), and Benin (West Africa).
Senior Laboratory Scientist:
Requirements:
1. Masters of Science degree in Health Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science or Equivalent
2. Previous experience in a similar position
3. Working knowledge of English is essential
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Working with the laboratory team to establish shared responsibility for routine laboratory activities, including
PCR and ELISA work
2. Training new laboratory members and providing guidance in laboratory techniques, specifically Blood-Meal
ELISA technique
3. Assisting in laboratory data management for PCR and ELISA results, and creating databases using MS
Access program
4. Contributing to high-level research programs
5. Working with the insecticide testing facility team supervising insecticide bioassays including susceptibility
tests and cone assays of insecticide-treated materials, under overall supervision of the PAMVERC IVCC
program manager.
6. Assist with the design of experimental systems and suggest improvements to current protocols
7. Conducting other bioassays supplementary to the PAMVERC IVCC research program and other related
duties as assigned by the PAMVERC IVCC program manager
Salary
Salary for the post will be according to KCMU College scales.
