Replacement Instructions
OKICOLOR 8 Printer Engine Board Firmware
Required Items:
#1 Phillips Screwdriver
Small Straight-Slot Screwdriver (or IC Removal Tool)
Upgraded Firmware
Approximate Time to Complete: 45 minutes
Caution:
1) Be sure to follow industry standard safety precautions for handling
Electrostatic Sensitive components
1. Print the Printer MENU.
2. Turn the printer OFF. Remove the AC power cord and parallel interface cable (AC power cord,
network interface cable and 18-inch parallel interface cable in a network configuration).
3. Raise the upper cover.
4. Removing the Right Side Cover (Figure 1)
Remove the two screws (A).
While lifting the Side Cover (B), pull the top of the
Side Cover away from the printer.
5. Removing the Shield (Figure 2)
Remove the three screws (A).
Detach the Shield (B).
NOTE:
The Shield is keyed at the bottom edge.
6. Removing the Controller Board and Card Cage (Figure 3)
Remove the SIMMs (A).
INSTALLATION NOTE:
Be sure to install each SIMM in its original location.
Remove the three screws (B) from the bottom of the Card Cage.
NOTE:
You may have to remove the Network Interface Card to access screw (B3).
Remove the two screws (C) from the top of the Card Cage.
Detach the copper grounding strip (D).
INSTALLATION NOTE:
Note the position of the copper strip for installation
Remove the screw (E - Refer to Figure 4) located at the back of the printer.
Detach the Ribbon Cable (F - Refer to Figure 3).
INSTALLATION NOTE:
The BLUE side of the cable is toward the front of the printer.
Remove the two screws (G) from the side of the printer.
Pull the bottom, right side of the Controller Board/Card Cage Assembly toward you to detach
the connector from the Engine Board.
Remove the Controller Board and Card Cage as one unit and place it off to the side.
NOTE:
Do NOT detach the Fan Cable from the Engine Board.

7. Replacing the Printer Engine Board
Firmware (Figure 5)
Remove the Printer Engine Board
Firmware IC4 (A).
Install the upgraded Printer Engine
Board Firmware.
CAUTION:
1) Make sure that the notch in
the replacement PROM aligns
with the notch in the PROM
socket.
2) Make sure all pins are
inserted into the PROM socket
and that no pins fold under the PROM.

8. Install the removed components (reverse the disassembly procedures)
INSTALLATION NOTE:
Make sure the Fan Connector has NOT become detached from the Engine
Board.
Controller Board/Card Cage Assembly
INSTALLATION NOTE:
Make sure to insert the Ribbon Cable through the slot (located above the Fan) in
the Card Cage.
SIMMs
Network Interface Card (if removed)
INSTALLATION NOTE:
At this time, you should close the upper cover, attach the AC Power Cord, turn
the printer power ON and print the MENU.

Did the MENU print?
NO - Turn the printer power OFF, detach the AC Power Cord and raise the Upper Cover.
- Remove the Controller Board/Card Cage and make sure all Engine Board Firmware pins
are properly inserted into the Engine IC socket.
YES - The Program ROM Settings on the Printer Menu will change as follows:
PU 02.XX CHANGED TO PU 02.25
- Turn the printer power OFF, detach the AC Power Cord and raise the Upper Cover.
- Continue to install the removed components.

9. Close the Upper Cover, turn the printer power ON.
10. Adjust the printer output (refer to the documentation on the OC8 Software CD).
Perform the Color Registration adjustment.
Perform the Color Balance adjustment.
