The Battle of Medina Historical Society and the Southside Independent

School District presents the Annual Battle of Medina Reenactment. The event
will take place during the schools annual Cardinal Days Festival on Saturday
November 15
th
. The reenactment starts at 11:30AM. and it will be on the
football field. Reenactors are asked to be on the field by 10 AM for rehearsal.
Anyone may participate providing proper period attire is worn and volunteers
are welcome. Dress should be Native American, 1800 Tejano , early Texas
pioneer or period military. Please visit my facebook page for examples of
proper attire.

The Battle of Medina was the biggest and bloodiest battle ever fought on
Texas soil. This battle was part of the Mexican War of Independence when
our Tejano ancestors under the leadership of Bernardo Gutierrez de Lara
proclaimed Texas Independence on April 6, 1813. This First Republic has
been officially recognized by the 83
rd
Texas State Legislature in House
Resolution 709 presented by State Representative Eddie Rodriquez from
Austin. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever since the Texas
Army has agreed to participate and will be bringing a cannon. This event is
not only entertaining but educational as well and is presented as accurately
and as historically as possible.

The school is located in Losoya Texas on the corner of Martinez/Losoya Road
and Hi 281 South (Roosevelt Road) approximately 20 miles south of San
Antonio. The school itself sits on hollowed ground and it was part of the killing
field.

Members and Friends of Los Bexareos,

1) On Saturday, August 23, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. there will be a Public
Workshop at the Christopher Columbus Italian Society hall at 201 Piazza
Italia, San Antonio, TX. Jerry Geyer, Co-Chair of the San Pedro Creek
Subcommittee is urging all Hispanic heritage supporters to attend.

The San Pedro Creek was the primary water source for the first Spanish
presidio and for the settlement that grew into modern San Antonio. The
goal is to have at least one part of the improved creek ready for San
Antonio's 300th Anniversary celebrations in 2018.

All design concepts created thus far will be on display, and the public
can ask questions, make recommendations and participate in the design
process. This will be the most efficient way to learn about the project.
The engineers and architects will be there along with our citizen
volunteer team and the San Antonio River Authority. This is a great
opportunity to make a contribution that will impact future generations.

Event flyer attached.

2) On Saturday, August 30, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Hispanic Heritage
Center of Texas will present the 11th Annual Tejano Breakfast Kickoff at
Alamo Plaza. There will be exhibits; and the public will be treated to live
entertainment, music and food. The event is free and open to the public.
