Small Business Awards

The deadline for nominations for the 2014 Small Business Awards is Close of Business
Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Please review the criteria and nominations information below, and
submit by Close of Business.

All Small Business Awards nominations must be submitted to SAME HQ using our online
nomination process. Awards will be presented at the SAME Small Business Conference for DOD
Programs being held December 9-11, 2014, at the Kansas City Convention Center, Kansas City, Mo.

The SAME Small Business Awards is an annual awards program honoring the achievements and
accomplishments of small businesses, individuals who advocate for furthering small business interests
and large businesses that work to strengthen and support small business.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
1) The Small Business Award can be self-nominated and must be a SAME Sustaining Member Company
in good standing prior to 1 January 2012, to be eligible for these awards.
2) The Large Business Award can be self-nominated and must be a SAME Sustaining Member Company
in good standing prior to 1 January 2012, to be eligible for these awards.
3) The Industry Small Business Advocate Award can be self-nominated. The nominee must be a SAME
Member in good standing and have been a SAME member prior to 1 January 2012. The nomination
must be accompanied by endorsements from two or more SAME small business owners.
4) Firms who have won this Award within the past three years (2011-2013) are not eligible to apply in the
same category.

AWARD CRITERIA:
1) Small Business Award Criteria (One Award)
The nominee should meet all of the following criteria for work completed for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy
or U.S. Air Force within the last five years from nomination due date (October 30, 2014) in an
outstanding manner as evidenced by:
Letters of commendations, awards, previous project evaluations, etc. to show past performance from
client or prime contractor.
Companys track record for working with other Small Businesses in the Industry
Companys track record for the professional development of its employees through participation in
SAME education and training activities; and
Company participation in one or more small business conferences (e.g. 2012 SAME Small Business
Conference, Veteran-Owned Small Business Conference, an SAME Post-sponsored small business
conference, etc.).

2) Large Business Award Criteria (One Award)
The nominee should meet all of the following criteria for work completed for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy
or U.S. Air Force within the last five years from nomination due date (October 30, 2014) in an
outstanding manner as evidenced by:
Small business subcontracting performance as evidenced by Summary Subcontracting Reports (SSRs)
within the past three years;
Description of the efforts to support small business programs and the result of such efforts (Number
of small businesses subcontracted to and subcontracting dollars to small businesses)
Letters of recognition or awards from DOD agencies or the Small Business Administration (SBA) for
outstanding small business utilization and/or SBA subcontracting program review ratings;
Companys demonstrated support for the internal training of the nominees program/project
managers on how to involve and support small business initiatives; and
Companys participation in one or more small business conferences (e.g., SAME Small Business
Conference, Veteran-Owned Small Business Conference, SAME Post-sponsored small business
conference, etc.).

3) Industry Small Business Advocate Award (One Award)
This award recognizes an individual from industry who has been an outstanding spokesperson and
advocate for small business. The award recognizes efforts and actions accomplished for programs
within the past three years. This person may be the Small Business Advocate within a Large Business.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
The nomination must show examples of how the nominee worked on small business issues with SBA,
DOD agencies, or other groups to support Small Businesses
How the individual contributed to SAME Small Business Conferences and training sessions, or
represented small business interests in SAME forums.
The nomination should include letters of commendation, awards and other recognition for the
individuals efforts to support small business programs.

NOMINATION PROCESS:

Nominations for the SAME 2014 Small Business Awards are due by COB Wednesday, November 5,

Selection Process:
SAMEs selection committee is chaired by a senior SAME member and four additional SAME members
representing small and large businesses who are appointed by the SAME Executive Director. Any
individual or company nominated is excluded from the selection committee. The committee uses
objective criteria based upon those listed above to review nominations and select award recipients.
SAME HQ notifies nominees of selection and presents awards at the SAME Small Business Conference
during the Awards Luncheon.
