CCS : Centro de Componentes Semicondutores (Center for
Semiconductor Components)
The Center for Semiconductor Components, CCS, is a multidisciplinary center, with emphasis on
nanoelectronics, nanophotonics and microelectronics. In addition to the research in nano and
microfabrication techniques, it also promotes a teaching enviroment for undergraduate, graduate
students and external insitituitions. Its facilities are open for industry and research both at graduate and
undergraduate level. CCS also provide services contract to other groups at UNICAMP as well as external
institutions

RFID Advantages

No line-of-sight contact necessary
Speed of an RFID system
Robust system
Bidirectional communication
Reliability in tough environments

The Different Types of RFID Systems

Passive RFID
Active RFID
Semi-Passive RFID

Active RFID - Chipless RFID Tag Design -

Disadvantages of Active RFID tags vs Passive RFID tags

Size : Active RFID tags are generally larger than their passive counterparts

Substrate Taconic TLX-0, with
dieletric constant of 2.55 and
loss tangent of 0.0019.

Resonator's geometric
dimensions :

W1=5.2mm, W2=2.26mm,
W3=0.8mm, W4=0.2mm,
W5= 0.3mm, s1=8.15mm.

Goals

The silicon switch was placed at a strategic place on the
resonator and its frequency response was tested for the two
operation modes: ON (with the laser turned on) and OFF
(with the laser turned off) mode

Conclusion and next steps
A new optically reconfigurable resonator design was
presented

Accurate and rigorous electromagnetic simulations using
HFSS 15.0 software made it possible to predict the behavior
of the reconfigurable resonator and validate the proposed
technique

Next steps : optically reconfigurable tag construction,
assembly and test
