1. Target
This document describes how to connect a printer to C264 using a RS232/RS232C
connection. This presentation is divided in two parts, the configuration and the wiring
of the printer.

2. Printer configuration
2.1. Definition
The C264 printer is connected on a serial port in RS232 or RS232C. The printer can
be connected on ports 1 and 2 of the BIU or on ports 3 and 4 of the CPU :
Port 1 : BIU board : RS232C
Port 2 : BIU board : RS232
Port 3 : CPU board : RS232
Port 4 : CPU board : RS232

2.2. SCE configuration

First create a serial printer under the C264. Then you have to link the printer to one
of the four ports (ports 1 and 2 on BIU, port 3 and 4 on CPU). It is made with the Has
for comm. port link.
On this link, you have an attribute (printer control) allowing you select the type of
communication between the printer and the C264 :
none
Xon/Xoff : software communication (not available on all printers)
Hard (DCD) : hardware communication
Xon/Xoff or Hard (DCD) : use this value only on Epson tested printers.

This attribute is available since SCE 3.71 / 4.33 and SCT 3.23

Once you connect the printer to a port, you have to configure the port. The attributes
to configure are in the Transmission panel :
Baud rate
Parity
Number of stop bit
Nb bits per char
You must have the same configuration in the SCE and in the printer itself.

All others attributes of the port (Tx/Rx carrier management, xxx wired) are not
used for printer communication.

2.3. Status of the printer in PACiS v3 and PACIS v4 (SCE)

The state of the printer is represented by a MPS. The different states used are similar
to those used for boards. These states are :
State 0 : BOARD_CONFIGURED_PRESENT. The printer is configured,
present and available.
State 1 : BOARD_SELFCHECK_FAILURE. The printer is configured, present
in default (paper or pause), absent.
State 4 : BOARD_NOT_CONFIGURED_NOT_PRESENT : The printer is not
configured.

Labels position :
State 0 : READY
State 1 : FAIL
State 4 : MISSING

This status is available on the SBUS and can be send for example to SCADA.
2.4. Status of the printer in RTU System (SCT)

The state of the printer is represented by a DPS. The two states of this DPS are :
OK : The printer is present and available.
Failure : The printer is not available (paper problem, pause, shut off).

3. Printer wiring
3.1. Wiring on BIU

On BIU, RS232C (port 1) and RS232 (port 2) can be used.
3.1.1. Jumpers position on the BIU board (Rev C1 and after)

3.1.2. Wiring on Port 1 (SCC1)

Jumper position for RS232C :

Put a jumper on S14 and S16.
Put a jumper between S12.1 and S12.2.

Wiring in RS232C :

3.1.3. Wiring on Port 2 (SCC2)

Only the DCD (DCD from BIU and DTR from printer) is used. It indicates the PAPER
OUT problem and the LOCAL/PAUSE mode.
The link between the line 4 (RTS) of the printer and the input 16 (CTS) of the BIU
allows to detect the difference between the disconnected state of the printer and the
mode PAUSE or the PAPER OUT.

3.2. Wiring on CPU

On CPU, only RS232 can be used and the wiring is the same on Port 3 (SCC4) and
on Port 4 (SCC3).

5. Tests on EPSON printers

EPSON LQ2090 with serial interface for dot matrix printers C82305,C82306.

EPSON LX300+ with serial interface integrated.

These two printers indicate their state by the DTR line (pin 20 DB25). This line is set
to :
SPACE (+10v) : to indicate that the printer is online.
MARK (-10v) : to indicate PAPER OUT.
MARK (-10v) : (after saturation of the input buffer) to indicate a PAUSE.

Comment :
From these versions of PACiS computers :
PACiS v3 : Computer A3.27,
PACiS v4 : Computer A4.28
RTU : Computer A4R.14,
The polarity of the DTR signal is inverted to be compliant with the EPSON LX300+
(this printer polarity is not configurable).
