About the ScreenSim_Single Spreadsheet ...

Scope :

The ScreenSim_Single spreadsheet was designed to simulate the response of a typical vibrating screen of any given
geometry, operating in open circuit under known inlet conditions.

Theoretical Framework :

By direct analogy to hydrocyclones, the Partition or Classification Function of a screen (defined as the fractional weight
recovery to the screen oversize of any given size fraction in the feed; badly called Classification Efficiency) is
decomposed into two effects: a direct feed slurry short-circuit to the oversize and the ideal (or corrected) classification of a
hypothetical screen with no short-circuit at all, in such a way that :

E
i
= B
pf
+ (1 - B
pf
) E
i
c

where,

E
i
= actual screen classification efficiency (fractional partition) for particles of size d
i
.
E
i
c
= corrected screen classification efficiency for particles of size d
i
, excluding the feed slurry short
circuit.
B
pf
= fraction of the feed slurry that short-circuits the screen directly to the oversize stream.

Taking Plitt's Equation as a basis, it is further assumed that the Corrected Classification Efficiency follows the
expression:

E
i
c
= 1 - exp [ - 0.693 (d
i
/d
50
c
)
m
]

where d
50
c
represents the screen's Corrected Cut Size (a fraction of the nominal screen opening) and m is known as the
Plitt's Parameter, that defines the classification "sharpness".

Knowing the characteristics of the screen feed, the computation of the oversize and undersize streams is fairly straight
forward, on the basis of the above two equations.

Data Input :

All data required by the model must be defined in each corresponding unprotected white background cell of the here
attached Data_File worksheet. Gray background cells contain the results of the corresponding formulas there defined
and are protected to avoid any accidental editing.

New Moly-Cop Tools users are invited to explore the brief comments inserted in each relevant cell, rendering the whole
utilization of the worksheets self-explanatory.
