We're off to a great start

in reading and writing!
Because our class will be
learning together for the
entire school year, we
spent a lot of time at the
beginning of the quarter
learning about routines,
expectations,
and
generally
laying
the
ground work for a year
of reading and writing.
This quarter we learned
about the characteristics
of
effective
personal
narrative writing. We
wrote
a
variety
of
personal
narratives
about a diversity of
important
topics.
Students also focused
on reading skills and
thinking deeply about
characters as they read
free choice books.
Our next writing unit
involves learning how to
craft literary essays. We
will
also
start
the
quarter by reading and
analyzing books about
refugee experiences.
As we head into the
second quarter, please
continue
emphasizing
nightly reading, logging
reading,
good

organization,
and
studying for spelling and
vocabulary quizzes. If
you have any questions
or concerns about your
child's progress, please
feel free to email me to
set up an appointment
at
your
earliest
convenience.
I really enjoy having
Anastasia
in
class.
Anastasia would benefit
by better monitoring her
own grade online and
making up work in a
timely
manner.
She
needs to work on being
more responsible as a
student.

Anastasias progress this

first quarter has been
inconsistent, showing
mastery on some
assessments, yet
performing poorly on
others. Overall, she has
demonstrated a
satisfactory understanding
of the mathematics
concepts and skills taught
this quarter. Anastasia
must ask clarifying
questions about long-term
projects so she knows
what is expected of her,
and she must be more
responsible about due
dates for completion. I
encourage her to make an
effort to stay more focused
during class discussions so
she doesnt miss out on
important matters. She
also needs to improve in
her responsibility for
regular homework

attitude in class and is
kind to her peers.
Anastasia has a positive
attitude and is attentive in
class but sometimes has
trouble focusing on
directions. Anastasia
missed three homework
assignments and came to
class without materials
three times this quarter.
She needs to work on her
organization outside of
class. Please help
Anastasia to check the
planner and use the grade
6 science "moodle" site to
keep track of class work
and homework. Anastasia
is a pleasure to have in
class; I look forward to
working with her this year.

Wonderful work in our

daily classes and in the
Fall Concert! This class
is particularly talented
and manages to sing
harmonies without any
problems at all. Keep up
the hard work and fun in
our choir class. It will be
a great year with such
interested and talented
students as we have in
this class!

Anastasia is our current

reigning master of
geography! During the first
quarter, she could locate
more countries than any
other student in the class.
Anastasia is good at
learning discrete

information; at times,
however, she struggles to
explain more complex
interactions like cause and
effect. Anastasia
completes her homework,
although sometimes its
been late or missing
particular details.
Anastasia works very well
in this class. She
participates actively and is
always engaged in class
discussions. Anastasia has
already developed good
writing skills and she can
apply spelling rules. It is
important that she reads
in German whenever she
has time. It is a big
pleasure to have Anastasia
in our German class.

and skilled artist. She puts
a great deal of care into
her work, but works at a
