ABOUT SPEAKERS
Mr. Rajendra Bandal : General Manager & Operational Head for Type Approval
& Engineering at TUV Rheinland (India) Pvt Ltd. He has more than 2 decades of
experience in automotive testing, standardization, laboratory management &
planning. He represented in various government committees for standardization
of Motor Vehicle Regulations, particularly in photometry, component & vehicles.

Dr. A. K. Prakash : Specialist Engineer at Eaton, Pune. He has about 20+ years
of experience in the field of system optimization through plant modeling
and embedded control system development for automotive systems, both
conventional & hybrid vehicles and mission critical defense systems. It also
includes research and academics in robust controls development. He has done
Masters and PhD in Systems & Controls.

Mr. A. V. Mannikar : Sr. Dy. Director & Head of Safety & Homologation
Laboratory and Passive Safety Laboratory, ARAI, Pune. He has more than 25
years of experience in Automotive R&D mainly in Data Acquisition, Analysis &
System Evaluation for Safety & Reliability. He represents India on Passive Safety
at UNECE. He was responsible for building state of the art Bungee Sled Facility
at ARAI for evaluation of Seats & Safety Belts. He has keen interest in structure
for Injury Prevention, Anthropometry (Size India) & its influence in Safety and
Conflicts in Harmonization of Safety Standards.

Mr. N. V. Karanth : Sr. Dy. Director & Head of NVH & CAE Lab at ARAI, Pune.
He has vast experience of 30 years in the automotive field like evaluation
of automotive vehicles for ride comfort, vibration characterization, NVH
Improvements on various noise sources in automobiles, noise pollution
control. He along with NVH team have evaluated various class of automobiles
to provide NVH solutions using both experimental and CAE techniques.
Published and presented a number of papers in various conferences on subject
related to Design and Evaluation Automotive NVH, Ride comfort and Durability
Evaluation of Automotive vehicles. Responsible for the Genset Certification
for Noise, as ARAI being one of the Certification agency in India notified by
CPCB. Successfully completed a number of projects for multinationals OEMs,
Automotive, Non-Automotive, Building Acoustic Manufacturers and Genset
manufacturers providing end to end solutions. He is the member of Standing
Committee of NCNPC (National Committee for Noise Pollution Control and also
the Member Secretary of GRB India Working Group on Noise, WP.29 of UNECE).

(TDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and

Dr. K. C. Vora : Sr. Dy. Director & Head of Academy at ARAI, Pune. He has his Ph.D.
from IIT-Bombay. He has a vast industrial & academic experience of 29 years and
has been associated with Walchand Nagar Industries, Emitec Emission Controls,
Mahindra & Mahindra and ARAI. He has specialized in the field of Automotive
Education, Technology Development Knowledge Management, Engine R&D
and Emission Controls. He was instrumental in starting ARAI Academy, which
conducts Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctoral Courses in Automotive
Engineering. He is the Advisor in various activities of SAEINDIA, under which
he conducts series of students activities like AWIM, BAJA & SUPRA SAEINDIA.

Mr. H. A. Nakhawa : Dy. Director at Emission Certification Laboratory at ARAI,
Pune. He holds a Masters degree in Heat Power Mechanical Engineering from
University of Pune and has been working with ARAI for more than 30 years in
various capacities. He handled various functions like formulation of regulations
and their implementation, approval of emission facilities and consultancy,
certification and homologation, expansion and establishment of new centers
like RCN (i.e. iCAT) and centers coming up under NATRiP project. Recently, he
has established a unique facility for nano particle measurement and developed
competency to provide the services for export homologation and R&D purpose.
He works on BIS various technical committees and principle member from ARAI
on TED2 technical committee. He is India delegate member represents in GRPE
under WP29 with active participation in various subgroups like WLTP, EFV, EPPR,
WMTC, NRMM etc. in formulating new global technical regulations and UN
regulations under Geneva 1998 agreement.

Mr. A. A. Deshpande : Dy. Director & Head of Automotive Electronics Laboratory


at ARAI, Pune. He is responsible for evaluation of automotive electronic
embedded systems for EMI/EMC, environmental conditions, performance,
etc. He worked on development of first prototype of electronic engine
management system for passenger car and also on development of number of
test instrumentation development systems / software for automotive industry.
He led establishment of state-of-art EMI/EMC test facility and evaluation test
facility for automotive electronic systems at ARAI.

Dr. S. S. Thipse : Dy. Director at Powertrain Engineering at ARAI, Pune. He did


his Masters in Thermal Sciences from Bradley University, USA and Ph.D. from
New Jersey Institute of Technology in the field of Alternative Fuels Combustion.
Presently, he is at ARAI, working on the development of Hydrogen, CNG & LPG
engines at Powertrain Engineering Department. He is an active faculty at ARAI
Academy and serves as a core member in the expert committee on Alternative
fuels of DST as a nominee of Director, ARAI. He is a Governing Board member
of SAEINDIA Western Section, life member of Combustion Institute, ISTD and
member of ISO TC 22&BIS TED-26.

Mr. S. S. Ramdasi : General Manager at Powertrain Engineering at ARAI, Pune.


He has done Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering In Design Discipline
also he has completed Master of Management Science in Management
Information Systems. Currently, he is doing Ph.D. from VIT University. He has
R&D experience over 20 years in ARAI, Pune. Presently, he is looking after engine
design centre at PTE, ARAI and responsible for execution of various projects in
design & development of engines, components & systems for meeting various
emission norms, strength, durability and structural dynamics requirements. He
has 2 patents on LPG fuel metering system and Gas air mixer for stationary
application engines.

Mr. R. S. Mahajan : Dy. General Manager at Computer Aided Engineering
Laboratory at ARAI, Pune. His domain expertise includes CAE, Crash/Impact/
Drop analysis of automotive structures especially rollover of buses - and their
validation, linear, non-linear, contact, thermal, fatigue analysis of automotive
components etc. He has successfully executed number of developmental
projects in automotive as well as non-automotive fields using CAE analysis
software like HYPERWORKS, LS-DYNA, ABAQUS, NASTRAN, ANSYS and FE
Fatigue etc. He was also involved in developing CAE (software and hardware)
facilities and Drop test facility at ARAI. He has published and presented several
papers in national / international forums.

Dr. S. A. Patil : Dy. General Manager & Head of Learning Center at Academy of
ARAI, Pune. He has his Ph.D. from University of Texas at Dallas. He has academic
and research experience of 16 years in the varied domain of speech under stress,
speaker variability under stress, adult-child interaction for language learning,
non-linear modeling of speech and driver distraction modeling. Recently, he is
in-charge of the academic activities at ARAI Academy.

Mr. M. M. Desai : Dy. General Manager at Automotive Electronics Laboratory,


ARAI, Pune. Presently he is responsible for Evaluation, Testing of Automotive
Electronics (EMI/EMC) and Certification, testing of Electric and Hybrid Electric
Vehicles. He is working with ARAI for last 12 years.
