Dear Members,
What a crazy summer we had here at the Claymont Moose. Thank you all who
organized and participated in very successful Chicken BBQ, the Summer Clam Bake, the
Summer Beach Party, the wild Oriental Party, all culminating with an End of Summer Crab Feast
last weekend. And thank you to the Women of the Moose for all of the great sandwich nights,
family dinners, and killer Steak Nights. I think I gained 4 pounds typing this.
ln late June, Mike Slotwinski and I had the honor to represent the Claymont Moose
at the lnternational Moose Convention in Las Vegas. What a great opportunity to experience what
the REAL Moose fraternity represents. Not only do you get to meet Moose members from all over
the USA, Canada, and Great Britain, but you get to meet and talk with the kids that go to and have
graduated from Mooseheart and the seniors that live at Moosehaven. And thanks to all of your
efforts collectively; volunteering, donating goods and monies, attending lodge and district
meetings, Claymont Moose Lodge 847 was presented the Premier Lodge Award for 2013-2014.
High fives and cheering definitely followed that announcement!! Missy's highlight of the trip was
hanging out with Mooseheart's favorite son, Eric Estrada.
Back to the East Coast. Please pay special attention to the activities and events
coming up these next few months. We will be having a District 6 meeting here on Tuesday night,
November 4. Yes, we know it is Election Day, but vote first and then come to the meeting for an
excellent dinner and good local Moose information. Not to be political, but when you do vote,
please make an informed decision on the delegates that are friendly to the non-profit organizations
to represent you in Dover. There is a list up on the bulletin board with all of the contact information
for each delegate. lt's worth a phone call or email to see where they stand on this issue.
We will be hosting a Karaoke contest here at our lodge where the top 3
groups/performers will compete in a District competition to represent us in February in Ocean City,
MD at the Mid-Year convention. Winners there will compete at the International Convention in
Nashville, TN for travel and accommodations and a first place prize of $5,000. We have some
talent here that can really shine in this event!
Please be respectfulto your bartenders and peers while you are having fun and
enjoying all of the activities and events available to you as a loyal member of the Claymont
Moose. And, a HUGE reminder that volunteers are always needed and appreciated, and on
the flip side that the people helping are volunteers too.
