From the Desk of Fr. Underwood:

How Are We Doing with Fruitful Harvest? I
wish I could say that we were all finished with the
campaign and that we could focus on other things.
But, were not quite there yet.
Including pledges from last weekend, only 23% of
registered families have returned a pledge card.
This is 300 families, out of the 1,300 here at
St. Lawrence. This means that 1,000 households have yet to respond.
Our total gifts to date are $146,460.00 which represents 54% of our parish
goal. We still need to raise $121,425.32 to meet the amount St. Lawrence is
responsible for.
We are a parish family and everyone matters. If you have not yet completed
your card, please do so ASAP. And, please consider a monthly gift for the
20 months of the campaign. Just $25.00 each month ends up being a $500
gift in the end.
Thank you to all who have already generously responded this year!

School Expansion Update: There will be a special presentation Thursday,

November 13th at 7:30pm in the Social Hall. This presentation is an
add-on to the 7:00 school PTO meeting. In it, I will share what I have come
to understand regarding the history of the school expansion planning and
where we stand presently. Eric Davis will share some information from the
Lafayette Catholic School System related to this project and future
planning. Thank you for your patience as I have taken on the role as your
pastor and the construction of a new building. All parishioners and school
parents are welcome to attend.
Why is Gods Great Gift So Easy to Miss? During the month of October,
we prayed faithfully for the sanctity of human life. And, during the month
of November, we pray for our beloved dead that they may have Eternal Life.
In the midst of our prayer, I am saddened by more and more threats to the
sanctity of human life and a devaluing of Gods incredible gift of life.
Many people see our gift of life as just another disposable product that can
be tossed out casually or disregarded at whim.

The recent assisted-suicide in Oregon, lauded by people in media circles as

dignified and noble, demonstrated a missed appreciation of a gift from God.
It approached life as something purely for pleasure that should be without
struggle or pain. It missed out on the opportunity to unite our human
sufferings to those of Jesus Christ on the Cross. And it took God out of
the picture. We are reminded when we hear these stories that our society is
heading down a moral road that is very dangerous and that we should be
praying each day for the sanctity of human life at all stages.

THE FAMILY THAT WORKS, PRAYS AND PLAYS TOGETHER

The 90+ Club celebrates the
following November Birthdays:

Q: What function does limbo perform?

A: The first thing to know is that limbo is only a theory and
it is not part of official Church doctrine. It says that babies
that die before Baptism do not experience the beatific vision
but also dont experience any pain. This theory emphasizes
the necessity of Baptism for salvation, but it fails to
account for the great mercy of God and his desire for all to
be saved. It is more helpful to turn to the Catechism and
see what it says about babies who die before they are
baptized. It says that we should entrust them to Gods
mercy (CCC #1261). In fact, there is such a thing as
baptism by desire. If one is seeking baptism (catechumen)
and he dies before the Easter vigil, his desire to receive the
sacrament brings about the fruit of the sacrament (CCC
#1258). It seems as if the same could be applied to
children who are miscarried or to children who die in
childbirth, whose parents intended to baptism them.
RCIA The Period of the Catechumen
Please help us welcome the inquirers who
participated in the Rite of Acceptance &
Welcoming into the order of Catechumens at
the 9:30 Mass on Oct. 26. This Rite is of the utmost
importance. Assembling publicly for the first time, the
candidates who have completed the period of the
pre-catechumen and declare their intention to the Church and
the Church in turn, carrying out its apostolic mission, accepts
them as persons who intend to become its members. God
showers his grace on the candidates, since the celebration
manifests their desire publicly and marks their reception and
first consecration by the Church. Please welcome: Phil Trice,
Deb Trice, Adam Cornell, Crystal Cornell, Maggie Cramsey,
Brian Pulsar and Justin Wilson. Please keep them in your
prayers as they continue their journey of faith.
Inquiry sessions continue to meet. Wont you join us for
an inquiry session? For more information please call the
Parish Office or Jim at 447-2939.
