News and Prayer Letter October 2014

We have seen increased opportunities with our neighbors, particularly with Nick and Samantha. Dennis
has had several conversations with Nick. One night, Nick and another neighbor, Mike, were outside
talking with Dennis and the conversation turned to spiritual things. Both are very skeptical, but Dennis
was able to challenge several of their beliefs just by asking simple questions. It ended with Mike asking
if Dennis knew a lot about other religions. He said he would be interested in doing a study on the
religions of the world. Pray that Mike would be serious about this.
Then, Elisabeth and Val were able to have Samantha over for a craft night. It was a great opportunity
for them to get to know Sam a little more. Sam recently had some medical tests, which caused her to
be very anxious. Pray that this would draw her to find peace with God.
Community outreach
We have been praying for opportunities this Fall to continue to reach out to our neighborhood. First,
we want to continue to have a focused effort in one-to-one evangelism through Bible Studies and
Gospel conversations. This doesnt always allow for explosive growth at first, but it begins to lay the
ground work for future evangelism and one-to-one discipleship. Several other opportunities that we
will be involved with: volunteering at Angels Place (a local family-help organization), running a game
night at the library, and volunteering at the public school. Please pray about future school
opportunities. They are looking for after school activities, and we would love to be able to have an after
school Bible Club or something along those lines.
We are also looking to do a Bible distribution outreach in conjunction with various outreach Bible
Studies, such as a 6 week explanation of Christianity, a 6 week overview of the Bible, and a comparative
religions study. It would be our desire to either have these studies in the home of individuals or with
small groups in public places such as a coffee shop or local restaurant (perhaps building a relationship
with the workers in the process).
The truth is, there are so many ideas for reaching out. However, time and energy will not allow us to do
everything. We want to do those things that would best give us a platform to share the Gospel, show
the love of Christ, and continue to build friendships and grow relationships.
School concerns
Thank you for your prayers over the last few weeks. As you know, Avalons school has had several days
of threatening phone calls. We are thankful that the person was caught, but we are more so praising
our God who allowed us (we believe) to be a testimony of confidence and faith in our God. Also, it was
through this that we were able to meet several parents.
PARBC Conference
On September 15-17, Dennis was able to attend the Fall state conference in State College, PA. Actually,
he was one of the speakers! Not sure how that happened. It was a good time of fellowship and
preaching. The fellowship also voted to extend our support for an additional year. We praise the Lord
for His continued provision and the vision and generosity of His saints.
