NO MORE MCAS!

We are taking PARCC!

It begins this year!

Massachusetts Department of Education
and Boston Public Schools are launching
new state assessment system called PARCC
(Partnership for Assessment of Readiness
for College & Careers) that has our Grades
3-5 students taking new tests in reading,
writing, and mathematics both in March
and May. These tests are timed and require
our students to think and respond
differently from how they were accustomed
to with MCAS. Because of how new this
test will be to our students and families, we
are hosting a PARCC Informational Session
on Saturday, November 15th from 10:00
a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with free childcare and
light refreshments to provide parents with
hands on experiences in examining the

questions and expectations for your

children on these tests. Our first PARCC
testing session takes place from March 23rd
thru April 3rd. For more information on the
PARCC
test
you
may
visit:

NoteWorthy School
Data!

Did you know:

Our Grades 3, 4, and 5

outperformed Boston Public
Schools in ELA and Mathematics
on the Paced Interim 1 district
assessment?
Over 55% of our students started
the school year reading on grade
level or above.
With our school wide goal of
having 80% or more of our
students score a 2 or higher on
Open Response Writing. We have
advanced our school average
from 1.6/4.0 to 2.0/4.0 since
September 4th!

The Michael J. Perkins School Drops in the Bucket
Program is a celebration of acts of kindness,
goodness, citizenship, and leadership. We look
forward to catching students doing something
good/great because we want them to know we
see the goodness in them as respectful,
responsible, and bold citizens who can make a
difference in the lives in their school community.
We would like to take a moment to recognize those
students who have profoundly impacted our school
in a meaningful way. If your child received at least
one bucket drop from September thru October
31st, they are listed here. The goal is to have the
entire school listed by the end of the school year!
