Feedback on genre and

magazine ideas overall

Heather Allso

Masthead= HYBRID
Name links really well with
your magazine idea as the
definition of HYBRID links
with the idea of your
magazine containing
different styles of music. The
idea of having white font of a
red background is interesting
and I think it breaks codes
and conventions of a normal
rock magazine but as you
want to include other genres
of music as well I think this
idea could work really well.

I like your idea as it is

unusual and I think it is
going to work really well
and fit in with each code
and convention!

Masthead= Indiependent
The name of your magazine
is really clever and the genre
of music you intend to cover
is well established at a first
glance. Your font really
enhances this as the INDIE
in your masthead stands out
and it doesnt just look like a
spelling mistake of
independent.
Masthead= open mic
Out of the two choices you
presented, you have chose
open mic rather than
Live but I think the second
choice would of been more
appropriate as you have
chosen to focus on live music
such as festivals and concerts
and I thought the live
masthead went really well.
The colour blue works well as
it has connotations of peace,
often associated with
festivals etc...
Masthead= shuffle
I like this name as it will
really appeal to a modern
audience with its
connotations of the IPod
shuffle and it is really short
and snappy. The colour
scheme is good because as
you said the grey will make it
seem relaxed but the blue
will work well to make your
magazine stand out. Your
font looks really funky and I
think it will stand out and
really fit in with your target
audience and genre of music
that you aim to cover.

I like your image as it is

cleverly constructed
alongside your splash about
an artist called ALICE as
she is wearing an Alice in
wonderland costume. The
lighting is well thought of as
youve used bright lighting
to make her appear dolllike. I think your magazine
would work better however
if you didnt go with your
idea of turning your image
black and white as in fact I
think your image with the
lighting will look fine in
colour.
I dont think the mise en
scene of your image is
completely appropriate.
Your costume and artist is
good but to me the issue
would be the background.
The brick wall behind the
artist is a little
inappropriate as it doesnt
look very professional.
I like the mock up with the
masthead live as the
picture works well with
your planned layout as you
can have a clear left third,
as you said. However the
mise en scene could be
adjusted so your artists are
not just standing in the
road as it does look a little
unprofessional. I dont
know where you are
planning to cut out the
main image.

I like the masthead

named Live as I think it
works well with your
genre. The masthead
open mic I feel may
clash with the other
definition which is being
able to speak your mind
but it could work if your
front cover is clear
enough!

I like the nocturnal setting

of your pictures as its dark
just like the genre of music
that you are covering. I
think the final image that
you have chosen to go with
fits really well with your flat
plan as youve really
thought about where
everything is going to go
down to the last detail. One
thing that was mentioned
in your pitch was the mise
en scene and it does work
well as it looks like the back
of a gig its just the drain
pipe in the background.

Your final idea is good

and your flat plan looks
great, there are only
minor adjustments that
need to be made such as
the drain in the mise-enscene but the artists
costume and expression
works really well!

The overall idea for your

magazine is good. I like
your masthead idea and
font however I think you
just need to reconsider
the background of your
image!

Masthead= Original
I like the idea of the name
original because its short,
snappy and to the point. Like
you mentioned, I think this
masthead will allow your
magazine to stand out from
the rest. Im not sure if your
font is a little hard to read as
it is quiet bold but if you
wanted to change this then
the font would look good if
you just altered the settings
so it was a little thinner.
Masthead= Amalgamate
I like the idea of the name of
your masthead as the
definition is to combine or
unite to form one structure
and this fits with your genre
of chart music as chart
music can be any genre, its
just current music thats
popular right now so your
masthead name works really
well. When receiving verbal
feedback, somebody said
that the font of your
masthead looked too advertlike but I think that it works
really well and it is a good
choice.
Masthead= A capellA
Im not sure if the meaning
behind A capella fits in with
rap because rap is mostly
always accompanied by
music in terms of when its in
the charts etc... I like the font
of your masthead however as
its in a graffiti style which
can be strongly associated
with rap music so I think in
this instance you thought
strongly about your target
audience and what they may
like to see.

As you mentioned in your

pitch, your image does
make your artist look down
to earth as he is in very
casual clothes. I think the
artist could make eye
contact with the audience
because although you do
want to make it look like
hes interested in music,
you are trying to appeal to
the people buying the
magazine and make them
feel important.
I like the idea you had of a
black and white image and I
think it works well
however, for your
particular genre I feel like
the artist that you capture
should at least make eye
contact with the audience
as it is very rare you find an
artist on a chart music
magazine that is facing the
side and covering their
eyes.

I like your overall idea

especially the masthead,
its just small tweaks that
need to be made but you
mentioned these in your
pitch!

I like the idea you had in

mind when taking your
image as it fits with the
codes and conventions of
rap as a genre. The man
with the hat and glasses on
was definitely the best
choice out of this one and
the other images youd
taken as there is a lot of
black and the costume fits
really well with the genre.

You have really

considered your target
audience when designing
your masthead and
taking/editing your
picture. You can tell that
when youre piecing your
ideas together, your
target audience and the
genre is always in mind!

I think your initial ideas

are good and my
favourite part of your
summary was the
masthead as personally, I
think the thought behind
the definition of the
name as well as the font
works really well with
your genre

Masthead= White noise

I like your idea of having a
handwritten masthead and I
like the idea of the name
white noise however I feel
like it should be in capitals
instead of lower case as the
idea of having a loud noise
links to shouting and capitals
would convey this well.

I dont think your image fits

in well with the genre of
music as I believe you are
going to use the
background without editing
it out and it doesnt look
very professional at all. The
idea of the person on the
right looking to the floor
instead of making eye
contact with your audience
is unusual because
although you said it shows
that the one on the left is
more important and plays a
bigger role in the duo,
usually in a duo both artists
are equally important.

I like the idea of the name

white noise and the
genre fits well with this. I
think a little more
consideration could be
taken when finalising
your image as I dont
think the mise-en-scene
works too great but
overall a great idea!
