CHRISTUS School-based Clinics expand capabilities

to strengthen students bodies, minds and spirits.

elemedicine increases capacity to serve

CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare recently
unveiled an innovative telemedicine program
that has launched at three CHRISTUS School-based
Clinics Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Resurrection
School and Yellowstone Academy.
Via laptop computers, medical assistants working
at CHRISTUS School-based Clinics can connect with
CHRISTUS family nurse practitioners. These family
nurse practitioners can see what a schools medical
assistant sees, ask students questions, provide
real-time diagnosis and even prescriptions.
Plans are in place to expand telemedicine
capabilities to as many as 12 more CHRISTUS
School-Based Clinics in 2015.
Counseling services help treat the whole student
Supported by a grant from CHRISTUS Foundation for
HealthCare, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese
of Galveston-Houston began providing counseling
services to students at 10 inner-city Houston
Catholic schools.

Currently, three full-time, licensed bilingual

Catholic Charities counselors serve the schools,
where they support students from pre-kindergarten
through eighth grade. Pressures of home-life, bullying,
depression and a host of issues are addressed through
counseling, which over time can help students improve
performance in the classroom and life outside of school.
As of late-2014, nearly 900 student-counseling
sessions had occurred, serving 176 students and their
families.

Each year,16 Houstonarea CHRISTUS

School-Based Clinics
care for more than
6,000 students.

CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread in Galveston provides

guidance and structure to homeless clients as
they develop plans of action to break the cycles
of addiction and despair.
While many Our Daily Bread clients can
access medical care, there are fewer resources
available for acquiring vital prescription
medications. Our Daily Breads Prescription
Assistance Program helps clients affordably
restore their health as they work.
In the past year, Our Daily Bread filled
approximately 500 prescriptions, valued at
almost $7,000. Many of these prescriptions
provided, help address psychiatric disorders,
chronic conditions such as diabetes and
hypertension and acute illness such as upper
respiratory infections.

Donor Spotlight
CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare is incredibly
grateful and truly blessed to join forces with generous
companies who represent the best of our community.
Companies joining the CHRISTUS Corporate Partners
program have been instrumental in generating donations,
lending their hands to building gardens at the School-based
clinics, feeding the homeless at Our Daily Bread, hosting
golf tournaments, stuffing wellness bags for the Mobile
Clinic, initiating clothing and food drives during the
holidays, and teaching nutrition classes for the first ever
School-Based Clinics Nutrition Fair.
