machine manufacturing activity. The company is taking lead role in spreading the concept of
Lean machines across the country through CII, ACMA, IMTMA, MSIL etc.,
It develops in houses equipment in three phases:
In the first phase, it develops worst machines with TPM and LEAN.
In the second phase, it manufactures new machines with TPM and LEAN.
In the third phase, it manufactures machines with low cost automation along with TPM and
LEAN concept.
The company manufactured 87 new machines with this concept.

The results are shown below:

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited:

Accessories Division of HAL was established in 1970 with the primary objective of
manufacturing systems and accessories for various aircraft and engines and attains self
sufficiency in this area. The company implemented LEAN for an efficient manufacturing

Identify the customer

Identify the Product Value - items for customer
Draw End-to-End Process (as is)
Identify Value Creators and Wastes

Identify Bottlenecks
Identify Process Future State
Form Project Team
Process Reengineering/Innovation
Deploy the enhanced/improved process in pilotRun
Stabilise and Correct the Process
Horizontal Deployment
Publicise Achievement

Lean Management has been applied in various processes within software development
projects. Some of the projects to which the technique has been successfully applied include
Project Management through Testing Automation.

FUTURE PROSPECTS:
Government Agencies:
Lean management can be integrated into government agencies. The government which
applies lean principles and methods to identify and implement the most efficient and value
added way to provide government services are called lean governments. Government
agencies have found that when Lean methods are implemented, they see an improved
understanding of how their own processes work, that it facilitates the quick identification and
implementation of improvements and that it builds a culture of continuous improvement.
Lean government proponents generally believe that the government should cut out
"waste" and "inefficiency" from government organizations; this in turn will result in better
services overall, as well as more value for tax-supported programs and services. Generally,
proponents also see that a Lean government is a means to expand the capacity of government
to provide more services per unit of investment.
Lean government approaches typically have the following characteristics:[5]

Take a customer service perspective that seeks to optimize value delivered to the public,
the regulated community, and/or other stakeholders;
Involve employees and external stakeholders in continual improvements and problemsolving activities;
Deploy a rapid continuous improvement framework that emphasizes implementation over
prolonged planning;
Seek to reduce the complexity of processes and the variation in process outputs;
Use performance metrics and visual controls to provide rapid feedback to improve realtime decision making and problem-solving; and
Approach improvement activities using systems thinking.

Just in time delivery:

Lean production can be implemented in Just in time delivery system which is emerging
globally. Just in time delivery is the new buzz in the e-commerce industry as the companies
are vying to deliver products earliest. Lean manufacturing process helps the companies in
making deliveries at the earliest.
To meet JIT, the process mostly relies on Kanban between different points. The
effective application cannot be independent of other key components of a lean
manufacturing system or it can "end up with the opposite of the desired result. Lean basically
helps in the flow of goods from warehouse to shelves. It also minimizes the storage space
required.
