In honor of Dr. John M. Bennetts 80th year and his dedication to leukemia research and
community volunteerism for the Arts: to benefit the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center and the
Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Bennett was the first Clinical Director of the University of
Rochester Cancer Center and the founder and chairman of the MDS Foundation. He has served as editorin-chief of the journal Leukemia Research for 20 years, chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of BioReference Laboratories for 10 years, and a member of the board of directors of Rochester Philharmonic
Orchestra. He is professor emeritus and is serving as an attending hematopathologist in the
Hematopathology Section of the Department of Pathology at the University of Rochester. He has
authored and/or co-authored over 500 publications. He received the award for Career Achievement in
Clinical Hematology in 2003 from the Celgene Corporation, and the BJ Kennedy Award for Scientific
Excellence in Geriatric Oncology from ASCO in 2011. Dr. Bennett earned his B.A. from Harvard University
and his M.D. from Boston University.
