CHRISTMAS NICE
SOME SWEET HOLIDAY TALES

CARTOON CEREAL PARTY: CHRISTMAS EDITION

Were gonna bring you over two hours of awesomeness with the
Saturday Morning Cartoon Cereal Party, and the only thing
were leaving out is the crappy cartoons. Just bring yourselves,
and if you have a special spoon or stuffed animal you can bring
that too. Pajamas are optional. Let me rephrase that: please wear
clothes, even if you choose not to wear pajamas. Regardless,
both the holiday cartoons and the endless supply of cereal will
take you back to a younger, more innocent, and stupider time.
EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (1990)
Johnny Depp finds a way straight into your heart with the use
of only 169 words and an innocently blank stare. Weve all been
that outsider, maybe not with leather gimp wear, but weve all
been that person on the outside dying to get in...but without
a clue in the world how to do it. Tim Burton has made his
living off of these outsider creations, but none have connected
with me so completely as the spectacular wonder of EDWARD
SCISSORHANDS. The unrequited love and monosyllabic gutpunchingly pure responses will leave even the strongest of men
with tear streaked faces. And that is why this December, as our
hope for snow grows, we will gather at the Alamo Drafthouse to
celebrate the snow-bringer.
Action Pack: ELF Quote-along (2003)
This year, Christmas comes early, and were all going to spread
that Christmas cheer the best way we know how - by singing
and quoting loud for all to hear. And dont worry, if you can
quote alone, then you can quote around other people. Theres
really no difference! Oh man, just writing out a paragraph with
jarbled versions of Buddys quotes from this movie is getting me
all sorts of excited. Will Ferrells take on a North Pole elf trying
to figure out Manhattan just might be the funniest hes ever
been, and this is certainly the best holiday movie from the past
ten years. To celebrate, well have jingle bells for everyone, bubbles for a few key scenes, and a present for whoever can eat their
spaghetti the fastest! Buddy the elf, whats your favorite color?
Thats how Im answering my phone all through December.
Pizza Party: HOME ALONE (1990)
After watching this movie all kids ever dreamed of doing is eating unlimited amounts ice cream and pizza and booby-trapping
idiot burglars when they try to infirate their house. Its comedy
line-up of Catherine OHara, John Candy, Daniel Stern and
Joe Pesci is hard to beat, especially when Candys playing polka
music or Sterns whacking Pesci with a crowbar. And to make
things even better you can watch this modern classic while eating as much cheese pizza as you possibly can!!! Kevin wouldnt
want it any other way.
ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946)
This ultimate feel good and festive favourite, from Oscarwinning director Frank Capra, stars James Stewart as despairing
businessmen George Bailey. One fateful Christmas Eve, George
receives a visit from Clarence, a celestial messenger, who
prevents him from jumping into a freezing river. The pair travel
together through moments in Georges life to show him what
the world would be like if he had never existed. A genuinely
tender and enduring piece of yuletide cinema.

CHRISTMAS NICE
SOME SWEET HOLIDAY TALES

Girlie Night: LOVE ACTUALLY (2003)

No other movie combines Colin Firth, an adorable little boy
with a dead mom, the British Prime Minister, the porn industry,
Mr. Bean, a washed up rock star and a kid in an octopus costume into something that will make you cry tears of shimmering, golden joy into your mug of spiced wine. How many times
have you rewound and watched the scene when Mark shows up
at Juliets door and shows her a sign that says, To me, you are
perfect? Join us for this very special holiday edition of Girlie
Night, where youre allowed (and expected) to squeal, sigh and
grab your neighbors arm when Colin Firth finally proposes to
that Portugese lady. Just in cases!
Action Pack: NATIONAL LAMPOONS
CHRISTMAS VACATION Quote-along (1989)
Catch up with the Griswold family as Clark struggles to provide
another set of perfect memories and, as usual, gets too caught
up in the details to enjoy the big picture until its almost too
late. Amidst the more outrageous sight gags (including the electrocution of a cat as the Christmas tree is lit) the film betrays a
sentimental streak, with old wounds healing and long-estranged
relatives reuniting in the Griswold living room. Now for the
first time ever, you can quote-along with all of your favorite
lines in this special Action Pack presentation at the Alamo.

HARRY POTTER AND

THE SORCERERS STONE (2001)
This film faithfully follows J.K. Rowlings first novel in the
beloved series, introducing us to Harry, a wizard-to-be whose
parents died trying to protect him from the evil renegade wizard
Voldemort. On his 11th birthday, Harry is whisked out of his
uncles hellish home and spirited away to begin his studies at
Hogwarts. But hes almost immediately plunged into a mystery
involving a bewitched mirror, a three-headed dog named Fluffy
and a sorcerers stone that can change any metal into gold and
can produce an elixir that grants the drinker immortality.
THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL (1992)
All your favorite chracters are here Kermit as Bob Cratchit,
Gonzo as Dickens, Miss Piggy as Emily Cratchit, and more.
Of course, the inimitable Michael Caine stars as the grouchy,
mean-spirited Ebenezer Scrooge. A holiday classic since its
original publication in 1843, that Dickens story is repeated
on an annual basis is a testament to the joy an audience finds
in witnessing someone discover the reason for the season, the
joy in giving, sharing, and being part of a holiday that means
spending time with those you love, and who love you.
POLAR EXPRESS (2004)
Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis reunite for THE
POLAR EXPRESS, an inspiring adventure based on the beloved childrens book by Chris Van Allsburg. When a doubting
young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole,
he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that
the wonder of life never fades.

CHRISTMAS NAUGHTY
THE COAL IN YOUR STOCKING

Vinegar Syndrome Presents:

CHRISTMAS EVIL (1980)
Young Harry (Maggart) witnesses some shady parental activities
beneath the Christmas tree, forever altering his perception of
reality. Years later, his tenure at the Jolly Dream toy factory is
compromised by an full-scale spiral into Santastic savagery.
Assuming the role of his personal hero, Harry will menace
children, mutilate non-believers, and tear open your torso like
a bowl full of jelly. Watch for the greatest closing shot of any
movie ever.
COBRA (1986, 35mm)
As Marion Cobretti, aka Cobra, Sly is the ultimate loner cop,
playing by his own rules even when his badge is on the line.
Set in Los Angeles on the eve of Christmas, Cobra squares off
against a deadly cult with a penchant for coordinated axe-play,
lead by the menacing Night Slasher. Aiming to protect
witness Ingrid Knutsen (Brigitee Nielson), Cobra ignores
his superiors warnings, and the tsk-tsk of the know-nothing
media, getting dirty like he knows hes gotta be. Brimming with
nastiness, 80s excess experts Cannon Films ensuring maximum
violence, COBRA was notoriously born of Stallones retooled
script for BEVERLY HILLS COP.
DIE HARD 2 (1990, 35mm)
Another Christmas gone wrong for the McClane family! At the
airport to pick up his wife Holly, John McClane finds he has to
save the day again when terrorists take over the airplane and demand to have the trial-bound drug lord Esperanza escorted off
and set free. Armed with profanity laced wise-cracks and guns,
McClane finds himself in familiar enclosed spaces (elevators, air
ducts), but at least he has shoes on this time. Heaps of fun with
plenty of explosions, DIE HARD 2 is almost like watching that
smoldering yule log video for the holidays.
AGFA Presents: HEAT (1986, 35mm)
Opening with Burt Reynolds getting beat up by someone half
his size, HEAT gets into the muck of Las Vegas sleaze with a
Christmas backdrop. Mex, an ex-mercenary now acting as a
chaperone in Vegas, yields to the plea of his friend Holly after
she is brutally attacked by a very wealthy and very sick manchild named DeMarco. She wants his balls in her hands, and
she needs Mexs help to get them there. Simultaneously, Mexs
services are sought out by Cyrus, a guileless millionaire who
wants to learn to be tough. Mex puts his skills to work to help
both, all with his eyes on the goal of making enough money to
move to Venice.
SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT (1984, 35mm)
Children think of Santa Claus as a jolly, kindhearted purveyor
of toys and dreams. But as we mature, the truth is inevitably
revealed -- Santa is a coldblooded butcher of men. A haywire
Claus-damaged nut dons the ol red-and-white and goes on
a killing spree that leaves more than his cheeks rosy red. See
our hero deliver death to both the naughty and the nice! See
a nubile teenage girl impaled on moose antlers! See police fire
white-hot bullets at the most beloved figure in the entire world!
I mean, were talking about people getting killed by a guy in a
goddamn Santa suit here! Thats what entertainment is!

Cinema Cocktails: THE APARTMENT (1960

This is a movie where, within 15 minutes of watching, you
realize it is unlike anything you have ever seen before. Jack
Lemmon is amazing, Shirley MacLaine is a full-on pixie, super
babe, and the chemistry and dialogue snaps and sparkles like
you wouldnt believe. The print were showing is incredible, and,
if thats not enough for you, Bill Norris is whipping up some
handcrafted cocktails for you to enjoy while you get swept up in
the power of true cinema.
Fangoria Presents: THE BLOB (1988, 35mm)
When horror remakes are discussed, 1988s THE BLOB deserves a place high on the list of those that work. Updating the
1950s Steve McQueen-starring classic, director Chuck Russell
and his co-scripter Frank Darabont cannily set their movie in
a small town out of the 50s, complete with a j.d. (Kevin Dillon) who teams with a good girl (Shawnee Smith) to fight the
formless menace. More modern is the new backstory created for
the protean monster, and the special effects that bring it to life,
resulted in high-powered and horrific scenes of the ever-growing
slimeball consuming men, women and children alike.
Monday Night Thread-up: BRING ME
THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA (1974, 35mm)
Odds are that youll be too overwhelmed by Sam Peckinpahs no
holds barred road movie to Hell (Mexico) to answer its taglines
pressing question. Centering his booze and bullet fueled crime
tale around the severed head of a gigolo being transported by
a mustachioed Warren Oates in sunglasses and his prostitute
girlfriend seems almost too fitting for the iconoclast filmmaker. Its a celebration of nihilism and good old fashioned
shoot outs.
Staff Picks: PANS LABYRINTH (2006)
Guillermo del Toros masterwork is a fanciful and chilling story
set against the backdrop of a fascist regime in 1944 rural Spain.
The film centers on Ofelia, a lonely and dreamy child living
with her mother and adoptive father, a military officer tasked
with ridding the area of rebels. In her loneliness, Ofelia creates a
world filled with fantastical creatures and secret destinies. With
post-war repression at its height, Ofelia must come to terms
with her world through a fable of her own creation.
ONLY AT THE ALAMO:
THE SEARCH FOR WENG WENG (2014)
One night in 1996, Australian cult video store owner turned
guerrilla filmmaker Andrew Leavold dreamt he was in the
Philippines directing a documentary about Weng Weng, the
two-foot-nine Filipino James Bond. Ten years later, hes actually
in Manila making a deal with the forces of chaos and following
his two decade obsession to its logical conclusion. Its just the
beginning of a very strange adventure, and as fate would have it,
its all captured on film.
VIDEO VORTEX: VENUS FLYTRAP (1987)
Join hosts Matt Desiderio (Horror Boobs) and Mike Hunchback (Seminal Psychosis) for your monthly dose of VHS only
insanity. Bring your VHS tapes - well be set up to trade and sell
