Aran Vest II–Round Version

Directions are for sizes 38, 40, 42, 44, and 46


Materials Used:
Size 5 and 8 knitting needles.
Size: 38 40 42 44 46
10 10 12 12 12 oz. DK wool
With size 8 needles—9 sts to 2 inches; 6 rounds to 1 inch

Stitches Used:
C2R (Cross 2 Right): sl next st onto cable needle and C2L (Cross 2 Left): sl next st onto cable needle and
hold at back of work, k next st from left–hand needle, hold at front of work, k next st from left–hand needle,
then k st from cable needle then k st from cable needle
T2B (Twist 2 Back): sl next st onto cable needle and T2F (Twist 2 Front): sl next st onto cable needle and
hold at back of work, k next st from left–hand needle, hold at front of work, p next st from left–hand needle,
the p st from cable needle then k st from cable needle
T4B (Twist 4 Back): sl next 2 sts onto cable needle T4F (Twist 4 Front): sl next 2 sts onto cable needle
and hold at back of work, k next 2 sts from left–hand and hold at front of work, p next 2 sts from left–hand
needle, then p sts from cable needle needle, then k sts from cable needle

Body
With smaller size needles cast on 168–176–184–192–200 sts
Place marker and join. k1 and p1 in ribbing for 3 inches, increasing on last round 4–4–4–8–8 sts.
Change to larger size needles and
p 4–4–5–6–7, Cable with a Twist, p 5–6–6–7–8, Arroundhead Twist, p 6–7–8–9–9, Cable with a Braid, p 6–7–8–9–9, Ar-
roundhead Twist, p 5–6–6–7–8, Cable with a Twist, p 4–4–5–6–7*, place marker, and repeat between * once
Continue working panels throughout, and reverse st st between panels
Work to 15 inches or desired length from start

Armholes and Neck


Work to 5 sts before marker, join a new ball of yarn for back of vest, cast off 10 sts, work to 5 sts before end of round, cast
off 10 sts
Note, back and front are worked simultaneously on three balls of yarn. Alternatively, each can put on a scrap piece of yarn
and worked separately. Front Decrease ssk for armhole dec, work 34–36–38–40–42 sts k2tog for neck dec, slip next st to
a safety pin, join another ball of yarn, ssk for neck dec, k to last 2 sts, k2 tog for armhole dec.
Back Decrease ssk for armhole dec, work to last 2 sts, k2tog.
Repeat these dec each side every other round 6 times on back, and 5 times on front.
And At Same Time dec 1 st at each neck edge every 4th round 2–6–9–9–10 times,
then dec 1 st at same edges every 6th round 9–6–4–4–4 times.

Continue working in pattern to 10–10 12 –11–11 12 –12 inches straight above underarm.

Shoulders Worked Flat. Cast off at each armhole edge 6–7–8–8–9 sts
Cast off at each armhole edge 7–7–7–8–8 sts twice
Slip to a holder for back of next the remaining 24–26–28–30–32 sts

Neckband
Seam shoulders. With smaller size needles on right side k across sts on back holder, pick up and knit 46–48–50–53–55 sts
along left edge of neck, k st from pin and mark for center st, pick up and k along right neck edge 47–49–51–53–55 sts.
k1 and p1 in ribbing across round on 118–124–130–136–142 sts taking care to always k the center st on right side and p1 it
on wrong side work in k1 and p1 ribbing, decreasing 1 st each side of center st every other round for 1 inch.
Bind off in ribbing.

Armhole Bands
With smaller size needles on right side pick up and K 112–118–124–132–136 sts all along armhole edge.
K1 and P1 in ribbing for 1 inch. Bind off in ribbing.
