WALL TILES

Cellular concrete
Composition
Cellular concrete is a stony material,
composed of sand, cement, lime, water
and a small amount of aluminium powder.
During the production process a chemical
reaction takes place that cause the typical
cellular structure.

changes. Under normal practical

circumstances this form deviation and
the linear expansion are approx. 0.3
mm/m.

Permitted moisture-percentage
For fixing wall tiles the maximum
permitted residual moisture-percentage
of cellular concrete is 30%. This seems
Shrinkage/expansion
By testing, according to the regulations of very high, but due to the light
composition, cellular concrete can
NEN 7027, all types of cellular concrete
uncomplicated contain a high moisture(blocs, panels) have an expansion or
shrinkage of maximum 0.9 mm/m, due to percentage. After a few years the
residual moisture-percentage balance
hygroscopic
will be approx. 4%.

Levelling
Fill water pipes etc. with a cement-based filling mortar.
When necessary level the cellular concrete walls
before tiling with a sand/cement based levelling
compound that contains organic additives and is
recommended by the cellular concrete manufacturer.
As alternative we recommend to apply 658
WANDOFORTE or 659 WANDOLITE. To avoid
combustion of 658 WANDOFORTE or 659
WANDOLITE first prime the cellular concrete with 099
DISPERSION PRIMER.
Pre-treatment
According to the regulations (model building
regulations), which are mentioned in the certificate of
cellular concrete manufacturers, the wall surface
should be made watertight to a height of 1.70 m and
finished with a waterproof layer. Thereafter prime the
walls until the ceiling height (regardless the height of
the tiling) with 099 DISPERSION PRIMER.
Fixing
In view of a shrinkage the cellular concrete
manufacturer recommends a permanent elastic
adhesive. Therefore we recommend you to fix the wall
tiles with a permanent elastic and moisture-resistant,
ready-for-use, acrylic based tile adhesive.

Grouting
Wall tiles can be grouted with 706 EURO GROUT
SPECIAL WT (watertight and flexible, for in- and
outdoor use).
Further details
For more information about the advised products
we refer to our technical data sheets.
Expand the tiles every 2.5 m with a permanent
elastic joint sealant (regulation cellular concrete
manufacturer).
Expansion joints (stuffed with an elastic ready-foruse joint or (in most cases) PUR-foam) in the
subfloor must be carried through in the tiling.
According to the certificate of the cellular concrete
manufacturers, the bottom of the wall in wet areas
must be protected against moisture-penetration to
a height of at least 40 mm above the finished
floor. Use 063 EUROTAPE in combination with
685 EUROCOAT. Because it is always a matter
of expansions at the internal corners, we also
recommend you to use the 063/685-combination
in the vertical shower corners.
