Machine Learning: Field of study that gives


computers the ability to learn without being
explicitly programmed
Big Data: Extremely large data sets that may be
analysed computationally to reveal patterns,
trends, and associations, especially relating to
human behaviour and interactions
Learning Analytics: The measurement,
collection, analysis and reporting of data about
learners and their contexts, for purposes of
understanding and optimising learning and the
environments in which it occurs
MOOCs: (massive open online course) An
online course aimed at unlimited participation
and open access via the web

words in education. Although we may not be
familiar with the terminology, we have all come
across this. From online dating to Google cars,
machine learning is everywhere.

surprised to know that it uses machine learning
to learn patterns in data to translate text from
one language to another.

may notice that it recommend things to you on

The education sector has begun to take an
interest in ML with particular focus on analyzing
student data in order to facilitate the educator
and also to judge the quality of an essay.
