Carbon Credits
Our partnership of local environmental agencies
,manufacturers and utilities assists, offers incentives, and verifies
that participating businesses conserve energy and water,
minimize waste, prevent pollution, and shrink their carbon
footprints.
The Concept
The concept of carbon credits came into existence as a result of increasing awareness
of the need for pollution control. It was formalized in the Kyoto Protocol, an
international agreement between 169 countries. Carbon credits are certificates
awarded to countries that are successful in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.
How buying carbon credits attempts to reduce emissions?
Carbon credits create a market for reducing greenhouse emissions by giving a monetary
value to the cost of polluting the air. This means that carbon becomes a cost of business
and is seen like other inputs such as raw materials or labor.
As emission levels are predicted to keep rising over time, it is envisioned that the
number of companies wanting/needing to buy more credits will increase, which will
push the market price up and encourage more groups to undertake environmentally
friendly activities that create for them carbon credits to sell. Another model is that
companies that use below their quota can sell their excess as 'carbon credits.' The
possibilities are endless hence making it an open market.

What is bio-plastics?
Bioplastics are a form of plastics derived from renewable
biomass sources, such as vegetable fats and oils, corn starch,
pea starch or microbiota. Common plastics, such as fossil-fuel
plastic
s, are derived from petroleum. These plastics rely more on scarce fossil
fuels and
produce more greenhouse gas. Bioplastics are more sustainable because they can break
down in the environment faster than fossil-fuel plastics, which can take more than 100 years.
Some, but not all, bioplastics are designed to biodegrade. Bioplastics which are designed to
biodegrade can break down in either anaerobic or aerobic environments, depending on how
they are manufactured. There is a variety of bioplastics being made; they can be composed
of starches, cellulose, or biopolymers. Some common applications of bioplastics are
packaging materials, dining utensils, food packaging, and insulation

The "Compostable" Controversy

A distinction must be made for the term "compostable". While "biodegradable" simply
means that an object will biologically disintegrate, compostable specifically demands that
the end product has to be humus. So, while a plastic may "biodegrade in a compost site" this
does not mean that it will compost in a compost site. It must also be noted that plastic
manufacturers operate under a, now withdrawn, ASTM standard definition of the word
"compostable" which entirely divorces the process of "composting" from the necessity that
the end product is humus/compost. Compostability - ASTM D6400 Since the only difference
between the terms "biodegradable" and "compostable" is the demand, of the latter, on the
content of the end product, the use of this new definition can be considered a transparent

What is Herbal Medicine ?
Herbal medicine -- also called botanical medicine or phytomedicine -- refers to
using a plant's seeds, berries, roots, leaves, bark, or flowers for medicinal purposes.
Herbalism has a long tradition of use outside of conventional medicine. It is
becoming more mainstream as improvements in analysis and quality control along
with advances in clinical research show the value of herbal medicine in the treating
and preventing disease.
How do herbs work ?
In many cases, scientists aren' t sure what specific ingredient in a particular herb
works to treat a condition or illness. Whole herbs contain many ingredients, and they
may work together to produce a beneficial effect. Many factors determine how
effective an herb will be. For example, the type of environment (climate, bugs, soil
quality) in which a plant grew will affect it, as will how and when it was harvested
and processed.
What is the history of herbal medicine ?
Plants had been used for medicinal purposes long before recorded history. Ancient
Chinese and Egyptian papyrus writings describe medicinal uses for plants.
Indigenous cultures (such as African and Native American) used herbs in their
healing rituals, while others developed traditional medical systems (such as
Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine) in which herbal therapies were used.
Researchers found that people in different parts of the world tended to use the
same or similar plants for the same purposes.

Made from 100% corn, the ECO-PURE Planet Friendly bottles and labels
are completely biodegradable and represent the first commercially
available compostable bottled water in the world. The company has
licensed the Cereplast PLA bottle design that has been certified as
commercially compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI),
and should break down within 12 weeks. The bottles require about 30%
to 50% less fossil fuel to create. Though remember that in order to
