HOW TO GET A REFERRAL TO FREE DANISH CLASSES

(PAID FOR BY THE MUNICIPALITY OF AARHUS)

Jobcenter Aarhus

Dear student - welcome to Aarhus

You can register for free Danish classes paid for by the Municipality of Aarhus if you swing by
our stand at the International Student Fair on 9th September, 2014 held at Aarhus University,
in the Student House (more specifically in Stakladen).
Free Danish classes require a referral from the Municipality of Aarhus or - if you do not have a
social security number (CPR nr) yet - an agreement with us on attending classes before a referral itself can be processed.
You have the right to 250 hours of introductory Danish which must be completed within 1.5
years. The 250 hours is divided into 5 courses of 50 hours each and requires a new referral
after every course. You will be given a course certificate at the end of each course which will
give you access to the next 50 hours if you wish to continue and still have the need. If you
complete the 250 hours in a satisfactory fashion and have the need for further Danish lessons,
you might be eligible for up to an additional three years of free Danish education. You are expected to attend lessons actively and continuously.
Please fill out and bring the attached entry form Basic Information to apply for a referral at
our stand on 9th September. The entry form is in itself not a referral but merely your contact
information which ensures, that both Jobcenter Aarhus and Lrdansk Aarhus have the necessary data for placement in a class as well as data for administrative management which in the
end means a better service for you.
We can easily and quickly refer you to free Danish classes if you have a social security number. This will allow the Jobcenter to access information about your residence permit/registration certificate and address in the Municipality of Aarhus.
EU:
If you are an EU citizen or a Nordic citizen and you do not have a social security number yet, it
is important that you bring a copy of your letter of enrolment from Aarhus University in which
your admission to the institution of education is clear together with the entry form.
If you hand in a copy of the letter of enrolment as well as the entry form you can begin attending Danish classes immediately, however the referral will only be made when you inform us of
your social security number. You must inform us of your social security number before the end
of the first 50 hours. If you do not, you cannot continue with classes.

NON-EU:
If you are neither EU citizen nor Nordic citizen, you cannot begin Danish classes or obtain a
referral without a valid residence permit. Therefore, please remember to bring a copy of your
residence permit along with the entry form and register for classes to begin before you receive
your social security number.
If you have not yet received your residence permit, we cannot refer you and therefore you
cannot begin Danish classes. You will have to await receiving your residence permit and register with Citizens Service (Borgerservice) for a social security number before you contact Jobcenter Aarhus for a referral to Danish classes.

If you have any questions please find us at our stand at Aarhus University on 9th September
