US-led military action against Islamic State targets in Iraq.

Saudi Arabia has made contingency plans in the event of an Ebola

free CFL bulb scheme under this scheme state government will provide free
compact fluorescent light bulbs to over 14 lakh hut dwellers in the state, an
energy saving measure aimed at saving 40 mw of power.

e-inclusion project : Centre recently launched e-inclusion project to spread e


literacy. This project is an initiative to make at least one individual in every
household e-literate, under the project, economically weaker sections of the
society including rural SC, ST and women will receive IT training.

Project Uddan : The project, an initiative of the Prime Minsiter, the National
Skills Development Corporation and the Ministry of Home Affairs and industry,
was startyed with the aim of providing skills to 40,000 youth over a period of
five years.

Rani Laxmi Bai Pension Scheme : 'Special pension' would be given to


Muzaffarnagar riot victims by U.P. Govt. The pension, which would be
anywhere between Rs. 400 and Rs. 500, would be givne under this scheme.

Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Beema Yojana (BPSSBY) : Health care scheme
for BPL families launched in Punjab.

'Roshini' Scheme : Centre launched this scheme for skill development and
job placement for rural youth and women in maoist affected 24 districts in 9
states.

Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana : This is a Health Insurance


scheme. This was launched in Maharashtra.

The Vikram Unyogpuri (Delhi-Mumbai industrial Corridor) project : This


was launched in Madhya Pradesh.

Golden Girl (Bangaru Talli) Scheme : A unique scheme, launched in Andhra


Pradesh, to protect girl child and ensure her education.

Anna Bhagya : A programme launched in Karnataka. The programme entitles


distribution of 30 kg rice at one rupee per Kg to over 98 lakh BPL and
Antyodaya card holders in the state.

Annapurna : Under this scheme. 10 kg of food grains are provided to BPL


households free of cost every month.

Amma Cement Scheme : Tamil Nadu Government launched this scheme.


Under this scheme, it will procure cement from private manufacturers and sell

them at Rs 190 per bag in the wake of possible increase in rates of the key
construction component.

Pitching for approximately 75,000 juvenile diabetic patients, Union


minister Jitendra Singh, a practicing doctor himself, said a high rate of

History was made today when an Indian and a Pakistani national jointly
shared the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2014. The Nobel Peace Prize for the
year 2014 has been jointly awarded to Indian rights activist Kailash Satyarthy and
Pakistan's Malala Yusafzai.
Kailash Satyarthi is an Indian children's rights activist. He runs Bachpan
Bachao Andolan Group in New Delhi, which has freed over 80,000 children from
various forms of servitude and helped in successful re-integration, rehabilitation
and education. He has been active in the Indian movement against child labour
since the 1990s.
Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani school pupil, education activist. She was shot
shot at by the Taliban in 2012 for protesting against curbs on girls attending school
in her town in the Swat Valley.

They are honored with this award for "their struggle against the suppression
of children and young people and for the right of all children to
education". There were a record 278 nominations this year, 19 more than ever
before including US whistleblowers Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning,
Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Pope Francis. Also on the list of nominees was
an anti-war clause in the Japanese constitution and the International Space Station
partnership. The Nobel committee said it regards it as an important point for a
Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a Pakistani, to join in a common
struggle for education and against extremism,.

Sir Ronald Ross : He was an Indian-born British doctor. He recieved the Nobel

mosquito. This invention helped alot in preventing malaria.
Rudyard Kipling : He was also an Indian-born British poet, novelist and short
story writer. He is famous for the popular 'IF POEM', The Jungle Book, Rikki-TikkiTavi, The Man Who Would be King, Mandalay and Gunga Din among others. He
recieved the Nobel Prize for Literature for the year 1907. He was the first Englishlanguage recipient of this prestegious award.
Rabindranath Tagore : He was a Bengali poet, philosopher, artist, playwright,
composer and novelist. He is famous for his book Gitanjali. He won Nobel Prize in
Literature for the year 1913. He became the first non-European to win this Award.

C.V. Raman : Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, an Indian physicist who is


famous for his research on "inelastic scattering of a photon (Raman Effect)". He
won the Nobel Prize for Physics in the year 1930 for his discovery that when light
traverses a transparent material, some of the deflected light changes in
wavelength.

Har Gobind Khorana : He is an Indo-American Bio Chemist. He jointly recieved


the Nobel Prize for Physiology / Medicine for the year 1968 with Marshall W.
Nirenberg and Robert W. Holley for his efforts to show how the nucleotides in
nucleic acids, which carry the genetic code of the cell, control the cells synthesis of
proteins.

Mother Teresa : She was an Albanian born, Indian Roman Catholic Religious
Sister. She was the founder of "Missionaries of Charity", a Roman Catholic religious
congregation. She won the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 1979.

Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar : He was an Indian-American astrophysicist. He


was the nephew of Sir C.V. Raman, who won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930.
Chandrasekhar shared the Nobel Prize for Physics with William A. Fowler for the
year 1983. He won this award for his theory on the later evolutionary stages of
massive stars. He is famous for Chandrasekhar limit (the maximum mass of a
stable white dwarf star).
Amartya Sen : He is an Indian economist. He is famous for his contributions to
welfare economics, social choice theory, economic and social justice, economic
theories of famines, and indexes of the measure of well-being of citizens of
developing countries. He won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for
the year 1998.
V. S. Naipaul : Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul, is a British writer of Indian origins
(his grandfathers had emigrated from India as indentured servants). He is famous
for his books A Bend in the River, A House for Mr Biswas, An Area of Darkness,
India: A Wounded Civilization, India: A Million Mutinies Now etc. He won the
prestegious Nobel Prize in Literature for the year 2001.

Rajendra K. Pachauri : He was born in Nainital. He is the chairperson of the


Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He won the Nobel Peace Prize
for the year 2007.

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan : He is an Indian-born American and British


structural biologist. He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the year 2009 for his
research on the structure and function of the ribosome. He shared this award with
Thomas A. Steitz and Ada E. Yonath,
Kailash Satyarthi : He is an Indian children's rights activist. He won the
Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2014 . He has been active in the Indian movement

President Pranab Mukherjee today left on a five-day visit to Norway


and Finland during which a number of agreements, including on education
and trade, will be signed.

The very severe Cyclone Hudhud blasted India's eastern seaboard today
with gusts of up to 195 kilometres an hour (over 120 mph), uprooting trees,
damaging buildings and killing at least three people despite a major evacuation
effort.

This has hit the Visakhapatnam coast in Andhra Pradesh this morning.

Lakhs of people evacuated from towns and villages through which the cyclone
pass amid massive rain and wind.

Wind speed reaches 150 to 180 kilometer per hours sweeps Noth-Andhra
coastal districts.

Nearly 400,000 people have been evacuated to relief camps in five districts in
AndhraPradesh.

Named after the national bird of Israel. The name was suggested by
Oman.

This cyclone is similar to last year's Phailin that crossed the Odisha coast
leaving behind a trail of destruction.
