Decorations
Once your tree is upright and secured,
its time for the decorations. To get a
symmetrical finish, its a good idea to
divide the tree into sections. Using
strings, divide medium/smaller trees
into 4 sections and bigger/taller trees
into 6 sections. Having equal sections
made, it is up to you to decide the kind
of look you want to give to your tree.
Ignite your creativity with a colour
or style theme. For instance a bronze
theme could use metallic colour ribbons,
wooden decorations painted in bronze;
a toy theme with miniature toys and toy
furniture. It is your tree and it is up to
you to decide how it looks.
Illumination
A lighted Christmas tree is the best sight
that the season offers. Some artificial
trees come complete with the sockets and
provisional wirings. However, if you are
using a real one, some wiring needs to be
done preferably by a professional. Place
a socket plug in with an extension wire
and many sockets below the tree. The
amount of lights that you need depends
upon the size of the tree and how much
lighting you want. For a near professional
effect, use 1 string of 100 lights per foot of
the tree. So if you have a 4 feet tree, you
would need 4 such strands. Use smaller
bulbs instead of huge bulbs.

Orca Deal of the

Christmas Season

Last week, we began our discussions

of home dcor focusing on an item,
that finds place in every home in
December The Christmas Tree. This
continuing part concludes with tips
on how to decorate and adorn the
Christmas tree

TH

BIRTHDAY

Start your lighting from the top of the

tree and move downwards. Use green
wires to make the strings less visible
and keep the plugs and sockets as
inconspicuous as possible.
Garland & Ornaments:
After fixing the lights, comes the turn
of the garland. The easiest way to
wrap the garland is to do it in a spiral,
starting from the top. Alternately you
can even break it into parts and tie them
in concentric circles around the tree,
starting again from the top. Whatever
pattern you follow, make sure you
measure the length of garland you need
to ensure you dont fall a meter short
before the end. You can attach long
ribbon streamers to the top of the tree
instead of the garland. Wind and swirl
them through the branches, down to the
bottom of the tree.

Crowning Moment:
The usual choices of crowns are the Stars
or Angels that are fixed to the top. You
may purchase one from the numerous
colours, styles and sizes to do the final
touches to your Christmas tree.

Tip of the Week:

Plan the Christmas decorations
to work with your existing decor,
even if that means using
unexpected colours. Make use
of the extra balls, garlands and
glitters after decorating the
Christmas tree. Turn a bare table
into a pleasant view; fill a few
glass jars of varying heights and
shapes with leftover balls for

a dramatic, colourful display.

Get clear vases, fill them with
water, and add a few drops of
food coloring. Then line up the
vases in a row and decorate
with floating candles for
a festive touch.

Take a trip to the shops and pick up

colourful balls, clip on fairies, daisies,
hollies, candies and much more. Its best
to have 10-12 pieces of each kind to
have a synchronized repeated look. The
sections made on the tree ensure that the
dcor is proportionate. However, you can
go in with a non-repeated, one of all kind,
look as well. Here your theme will also
determine what to hang. While putting
the ornaments, make sure that the lights
are on, so that they are not hid behind
the lights or you are not left with any
unwanted gaps. Dont forget to involve
other members of family to make a truly
homemade family tree decor.
