Since my childhood, I always cherished a dream of becoming an engineer which has grown
over the years. From the school days, I enjoyed studying mathematics and physics and had
strong inclination towards solving problems using logic and rational. This led me to choose
engineering for my undergraduate studies. I realized that I was very much fascinated by the
intricacies involved in the functioning of various machines and was keen to understand and
study them meticulously. Hence, after the successful completion of my higher secondary
education in applied sciences, I chose to pursue mechanical engineering.
In India, mechanical engineering is primarily a male dominated area. Having a proclivity
towards mechanical engineering, I was in search for a right institution which can groom me in
pursuing my interest. Cummins College of engineering for Women was the institution that
enriched and broadened my interest.
The undergraduate program included a diverse coursework introducing the different facets of
mechanical engineering like machine Design, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Mechatronics
Manufacturing Processes and Energy Audit that enabled me to acquire insights into the various
industrial applications in mech. The intensive laboratory exercises further elevated my interest in
this field and convinced me to pursue my graduate studies in " .... ".
During the first and second year of my college, I consistently participated in the various paper
presentation competitions and other events like contraption. The contraption tested our
analytical and problem solving skills. This gave me a scientific approach for perceiving things
in everyday life.
In the third year , I with my other team mates presented a paper on "Heat pipes and its
applications" at Government College of Engineering Pune, India which is certified by
ISHRAE. It is an associate of ASHRAE. We bagged the third place in this competition. This
helped me boost my confidence level and we bagged many other prizes at different well-reputed
colleges in Pune. The other topics for my paper presentations included, "Heat transfer
enhancement using nanofluids" and "Removal of toxic waste by the use of activated carbon".
I have been actively participating in different workshops on Robotics. Our team had constructed
a 'Black Path Tracer Robot' at a workshop organized by the 'Robot study circle' Govt. College of
Engineering, Pune. I also attended various seminars during these years. They include, a seminar
titled AUTONEX at MIT College of Engineering, Pune and a seminar on Petroleum
Conservation organized by PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Agency) Govt. of India.
Since it is critical to apply the theoretical knowledge gained through education in real life
situation , I underwent a summer internship at "Forbes Marshall" which is one of the renowned
companies in the world in the field of Steam Engineering and Control Instrumentation Solutions

for the process industry. At Forbes Marshall, we learnt firsthand experience working on the shop
floor on several manufacturing processes which we studied in our academics.
As a part of the curriculum, I was exposed to and practiced on drafting, modeling and simulation
softwares like Auto-CAD, PROE , CATIA, MATLAB, ANSYS etc. which helped me in the
design and analysis of different mechanical systems, which will additionally be beneficial for my
final year project and make me proficient in the area of Computer Aided Drafting and
Manufacturing.
In the final year, I am working with my team mates on a project titled ''Automation of Inserts
Drying Machine" at Sandvik Asia Ltd. It is a Swedish based high technology engineering group.
In this project, our aim is to increase the productivity and reduce the cost of production for the
company. For this purpose, we will be designing an inserts drying machine ensuring complete
drying of inserts, eliminating the extraneous operations and reducing human intervention to the
minimum possible.
As a part of campus recruitment, various companies visited our campus to recruit the right
candidates. I was successfully recruited at Cummins India Ltd. after qualifying through the
aptitude test and the rounds of technical and personal interviews.
Believing that an individual's all-round personality is judged not only by one's academic
adeptness, but also by his active involvement in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. I was
in the organizing committee at the college technical fest "TRIZ". Realizing my interest in music
since childhood, I learnt Indian classical music during my school days and won prizes at the
school level. I also cleared two national level exams in Indian classical music. Continuing to
pursue my passion for music, I participated in the college cultural event "GANDHAR" and
presented my vocal skills.
Apart from this, I was a part of "Garnishing Talent" a soft skills training program organized by
EATON in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) which sharpened my soft
skills and enhanced the leadership qualities. This has helped me transform into a more competent
and confident individual and inculcated values like team building in me.
As the United States is always known to welcome potent and passionate individuals from every
corner of the world in their respective fields, I will have an opportunity to unleash my potential
and get the valuable guidance and coaching from the expertise in my field. This would definitely
give me a global exposure about the present scenario of research in the field of ".... " and the
future scope of development in the technology.
Purdue University is among the top universities of the world in the field of Mechanical
Engineering. It is the University which has sculpted scholars like Neil Armstrong. I will be
privileged to have the opportunity to learn in such an acclaimed institution. Also, Purdue

provides the research facilities that cater to my academic aspirations. This would be an enriching
and prolific experience for me.
Finally, I would like to conclude by observing my ardent desire to contribute in the field of
Mechanical Engineering. I believe that I have all the necessary potential and the intellectual
ability to serve the purpose of being an engineer and give justice to the demanding graduate
program. I hope for a favorable consideration of my application. I guarantee to live up to the
high standards of your expectations.
