Letterhead
Description: A business card and matching letterhead stationary
from a personally made logo
Programs: Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
Date: 8 November 2014
Course: Comm130 Section 1
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Create a new logo to fit a company. Design consistent
layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of
Illustrator and InDesign.
Process: I tried to make a realistic olive using the shape tool and the
free transform tool in Adobe Illustrator. I placed my logo in a two
page InDesign document. I used the logo I had created in Adobe
Illustrator and placed in a 23.5 in. box and adjusted it to fit. I made
another 23.5 in. box and put the contact information in it. I added
the dots to create a repetition from the design of the letterhead. The
first page is the letterhead. I placed the logo in the top left corner
leaving some room on the edge of the paper. I added the contact
information in a text box and placed it in the right hand corner. I
used the dropper tool to get the colors from the olive that I had
created and adjusted the text to be positioned correctly. I added
the dotted boarder at the top and at the bottom. I used the eye
dropper tool to get the reddish color from the pimento of the olive.

Web Page
Description: A web page to show a logo that I created
Programs: TextWrangler and Adobe Illustrator
Date: 22 November 2014
Course: Comm130 Section 1
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo for a web page.
Describe the process of creating the logo and how it appeals to
the target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display a
logo and content. Understand how HTML and CSS work. Identify hex
colors for web design. Compress multiple file into a zipped folder
attached as one file.
Process: I made this web page using TextWrangler. It was also very
helpful to use HTML validator to check any problems or errors with
my code. I attached an already made CSS document to my HTML.
I used the colors from my logo on my web page. Adobe Illustrator
and used the eye dropper tool to get the exact colors. I changed
my fonts to Century Gothic, because I wanted it to look clean and
have repetition. I used some backup fonts in case the fonts were
unavailable. I inserted a background image and made sure the text
was aligned properly and not too close to the edge.

Brochure
Description: A double-sided trifold brochure
Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop
Date: 6 December 2014
Course: Comm130 Section
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided folded document, learn
how to text wrap an image, use paragraph styles
Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to create a new logo. I chose fonts
for the logo and adjusted them to align properly. I used the pen tool
to create the tree design. I placed the logo in InDesign. I used the
colored bars to create repetition throughout the brochure and used
the rule of thirds to keep it more interesting. I chose the dinosaur
background and changed the opacity to 25% to fit the theme
without being too distracting.I chose images that I felt reflected the
idea of my brochure. I used Photoshop and used the quick
selection tool to remove the background on the picture of the baby
and used the text wrap option to wrap my text around the alpha
channel of the picture.I set up a fold in Adobe InDesign. I spit my
layout into 3 sections to make a trifold brochure. I set up the layout
and text boxes and created the headings

Logos
Description: Three different logos for the same company
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: 1 November 2014
Course: Comm130 Section 1
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Create a variety of logos for a company. Use the basic
tools of Illustrator
Process: I started coming up with ideas of what I wanted the logo to
be for. I came up with Banana Boat Bakery, based on a nickname,
banana boat. I started sketching over 12 designs for my logo. Then
I used Adobe illustrator to create the 3 designs from sketches that I
liked the best. I started off using the pen tool and made the
banana, which I used in all 3 designs. I tried different types of
typography and used different colors schemes. The monkey I made
by using the shape tool. After the critique, I made some alterations
to my designs. I had to fix the typography and change some of the
colors and then I made the top into an actual banana boat.

Imaging
Description: A personally taken photograph that was
edited/formatted in Photoshop
Programs: Nikon Coolpix 900 Camera, Adobe Photoshop
Date: 18 October 2014
Course: Comm130 Section 1
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to
take a quality image and download it. Size and crop the image.
Adjust image contrast, brightness, hue and saturation levels. Use a
selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use the filter or colorize portion of the
image.
Process: I went out and took pictures with my Nikon Coolpix 900
camera. I chose to do something I am passionate about, dance. I
then made multiple sketches of designs that I thought would work. I
watched the video tutorials for Photoshop. After choosing a sketch
to work with, I edited my photo in Photoshop. One of the main things
I did was increase the vibrance and removed some unwanted items
in the photo. After retouching the picture, I added color swatches
and the names of the colors and color scheme. I added the quotes
and the circle swatches and then organized them in a way that I
thought flowed. I used the dropper tool to get the exact colors from
my picture.

Event Ad
Description: A color full-bleed ad to promote a fundraiser using
Microsoft Word and a scanner
Programs: Microsoft Word, HP 1050 j Scanner
Date: 11 October 2014
Course: Comm130 Section 1
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Find, san and import a high-quality image. Create a
full-bleed design. Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit
images in Word.
Process: I started looking through magazines to find pictures I could
use for an event. Once I found my picture I started to make
sketches and determine what I wanted to put on the flier. I scanned
the image in my scanner and picked a sketch to start making my
flier on Microsoft Word. I chose two fonts to create balance and
contrast, bolding the words that are more important. I continued
to play around on Word to create a design I was happy with. After
making adjustments, I was finally satisfied by my flier. The programs
that I used were Microsoft Word and HP 1050 j scanner.

Flier
Description: Black and white promotional flier, promoting a graduate
leadership conference
Programs: Adobe InDesign
Date: 4 October 2014
Course: Comm130 Section 1
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Apply design principles and use appropriate
typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier
layout. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign
document to keep links together.
Process: I started off making sketches of my design. I narrowed
down the two that I thought worked the best. I used Adobe
InDesign to create the layout from one of my sketches. I used the
black boarders for contrast throughout my design. I emphasized
certain phrases and words in bold for contrast and a focal point. I
made sure there was enough white space so the design was not too
cluttered. I chose my picture, logo and the information from the options I was given.

Montage
Description: An inspirational montage made blending two or more
images and the use of typography
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Date: 26 October 2014
Course: Comm130 Section 1
Instructor: Cory Kerr
Objectives: Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend
images together smoothly, using the masks. Use filters. Apply correct
typography.
Process: I found a quote that I liked. I sketched out the design I had
in my head on paper. I used Photoshop to crop an image of metal
texture to 8.5 x 11. Then I inserted other pictures that I found online
and trimmed out what I wanted and put it on my image. I used the
brush tool for the girl in armor and made her colorful and the
background black and white and blended it to the image. I did the
same for the missionary reading her scriptures and took out a lot of
the background of the picture with the opacity brush tool. I
blended the two pictures together and added the picture of the
Book of Mormon. I moved the pictures around to get a nice blend. I
added the text and adjusted the fonts.
