JEE ADVANCED 2013 - MATHEMATICS PAPER ANALYSIS

The deciding section of IIT-JEE 2013 i.e. Maths was tough, as usual, as compared to last year.
The weightage of Class XI & XII has justified the lengthiness in the paper.
The presentation of questions was quite tricky that it would easily induce ordinary students to
commit mistakes. This year there were 8 questions out of 20 where the chances of selecting a
wrong option are quite high. That means the IITJEE body has given a standard paper deserved
for true aspirants. The questions were of conceptual nature, not direct and needed a strong
foundational base and their answering took a fair time to arrive at the exact answer.
The paper-I of Maths was tough as compared to paper II, which was a bit moderate. We can see
the weightage of Vectors and 3-D geometry has increased this term and students will have to
focus on these areas henceforth.
Both Paper- I&II contained total of 60 questions i.e. 20 questions from each subject in each
paper. Both papers were of 180 marks with 60 marks for each subject.
The detailed pattern of Paper-I & Paper II is as shown below:

Overall, we can say the paper is tough and average students have to pay more attention on mathematical
concepts and basics. As mathematics is the deciding factor, students must be assiduous in the preparation
of the subject from the day itself.
