&

WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT FROM US

YOU ARE HERE

TO CHOOSE A MEDIUM TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL.
TO LEARN BUT NOT TO HEAR THE LECTURES
TO ALWAYS COMPETE HEALTHILY WITH YOUR
FRIENDS.
TO CORRELATE AND COMPREHEND YOUR
ABILITIES.

SO
YOU ARE WELL-DISCIPLINED.
YOU ARE PASSIONATE.
YOU HAVE THE THREE QUALITIES WE ARE
LOOKING FOR
(I)
DETERMINATION
(II)
DEDICATION
(III) DEVOTION

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

CERTAINLY NO MIRACLES
This course is not a panacea. We expect some minimum qualities from a student.
Students should be motivated to learn and succeed. They should be willing to try things out.
And they should strictly follow the approach suggested. This leads to the success in their
careers.
Master IIT Academy came out with an ideal way of teaching (learning) approach. The steps
involved in pedagogical methodologies are

You should learn the requisite concepts

You have to profile yourself
You have to identify your weakness and strengths and also identify misconceptions
You should attack your weakness and prepare a strategy to defend the threats
Then you have to profile yourself again

Master IIT Academy identifies you as a UNIQUE individual but not as a student in a group
of students like in other routine coaching institutes.
We wont encourage the deceiving tactics like giving important questions and making you
to recite or cramming them day after day and show you great marks in the week-ends satisfying
your parents and your inner feelings and aspirations but, we are strongly against to this attitude.
Instead, here we encourage you to

do mistakes

ask questions

think for oneself :

:
thereby you have the opportunity to rectify them and build self-confidence
:
learning is greatly achieved only through question answer method
instead of going through several books, we recommend only the Academy books
and few other standard books, but the best part the notes you write in the class.
Immediately after the classes, during the study hour sessions, think what the
lecturers taught you, prepare a detailed notes irrespective of what others wrote.

Hearing vs. Listening

Is there a difference between hearing and listening?

Yes, there is! Hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound by the ear. If you are not
hearing-impaired, hearing simply happens.
Listening, however, is something you consciously choose to do. Listening requires
concentration so that your brain processes meaning from words and sentences. Listening leads
to learning. Most people tend to be hard of listening rather than hard of hearing.
Taking Notes From Lectures
Taking notes during a lecture can be a frustrating, almost overwhelming, job.
What should your notebook look like after a lecture?
In general, it should look a little like an outline with clear main ideas and some sub-points with a
moderate amount of details and examples. There should probably be some white space so that you add
notes from your text or from the next days lecture.

Sit comfortably in the class in the correct posture. You will have the most direct
communication with your lecturer, and you will less likely be distracted.
Read the chapter from the textbook before the lecture. It makes a tremendous difference to
the understanding of the lecture. This way, a student can focus on the difficult parts of the
chapter and ask questions.
Learn to identify main points. Lecturers often give clues to whats important by repeating
information, changing their voices or rate of delivery, listing items in order of importance,
and, of course, by writing on the chalkboard what key point is the lecturer making?
Maintain eye contact with the instructor. Of course you will need to look at your notebook to
write your notes, but eye contact keeps you focused on the job at hand and keeps you
involved in the lecture.
Stay active by asking questions. Active listening keeps you on your toes. Whenever you
have a doubt, immediately ask for clarification. Get very specific in the question that you
ask.
Try to anticipate what the professor is going to say. It keeps the mind involved and active in
the learning process. Your mind does have the capacity to listen, think, write and ponder at
the same time, but it does take practice. You can think faster than the lecturer can talk.
If the classroom is too hot or too cold, wear appropriate clothes to deal with it.

choose your own method of solution

The Ultimate Weapon to Win the IIT JEE Battle is to develop a System.
Compile the study material
Some questions that come to our mind are:

How much material?

What IIT JEE courses material should I use?
Should I study from the school textbook or the one recommended by the tuition teacher?

There is little time to complete one set of textbooks. It is next to impossible to complete two
different sets. Keep just one set of text books for studying the theory (concepts, definitions) and
basic problems.
The new pattern of IITJEE has brought it much closer to the school syllabus. So, ideally, it
should be the textbook recommended as part of your school syllabus. There is very little
difference in the theory presented from one textbook to another. After one set of textbooks is
completed, students can look at other books as reference.
Similarly, keep just one set of IITJEE course material.
Note: Collecting too much material is a recipe for disaster
After you have chosen the material that is best for you, how do you put it to the best use? There
are as many different ways to study, as there are different people. The trick is to find the study
style that works best for you.
Read
This is one of the most useful activity. It takes minimum effort and brings maximum result.
Students, who are used to studying from coaching notes, tend to avoid reading. This is the
single biggest reason for their failure. No coaching notes can replace reading of textbooks. The
information you gain from reading is important. If you just do it without learning something,
it is a waste of time. Train your mind to learn!
Read the following:
1. Title
2. Core text and examples
3. Introduction and Summary
4. Heading and subheading
5. Graphics charts, maps, diagrams, etc. are there to make a point dont miss
them.
6. Reading aids italics, bold face print, chapter objective, end-of -chapter
questions
Understand
You must understand thoroughly the major ideas and concepts presented. Without such a
conceptual framework, you will find yourself faced with the impossible task of trying to cram
hundreds of isolated facts into your memory.
* Locate and note down the new terms, which are introduced in the chapter.
* Note down statements, definitions, formulas, etc. which you must remember completely and
precisely.
* If you are not able to figure out the meaning, then look it up in the glossary or dictionary.
* Study charts and figures. They usually summarize in graphic form the major ideas and facts of
the chapter.
Note: It is a good idea to keep a glossary of your own in the front page of the
book. Record the terms and their definition or the page number where the definition is
located. This is an excellent aid to refer to when you are reviewing for an examination,
as it provides a convenient outline of the course.
Ask question

Ask questions and keep trying to answer them as you read the chapters. The more the questions,
the better your comprehension is likely to be. You may always add further questions as you
proceed. When your mind is actively searching for answers to questions it becomes engaged in
learning.
Write down the key takeaways (learning) from every topic (make notes)
* Write down the questions that you cannot answer?
* Mark sections for clarification wherever necessary
* Review the key takeaways (notes) after completion.

Finally, last but not the least Self-Discipline and Self-Motivation.

We believe firmly that Rules are always made to break the rules. Hence we wont
set any hard-bound rules.
Do remember that you are here in Master IIT Academy, to achieve your goal set by
your ownself but simply not someone said or just because everyone talking about
something this called IITs or NITs or IIITs etc.,.
We expect some minimum set of rules to be followed keeping your bright future in
view.
1.

Keeping in touch with your parents is always advisable but that should not
prevent you in achieving your goal. Hence we advise you, particularly the
HOSTELER, to restrain from the use of phone frequently. Parents are
requested to prepare their wards in such a manner.

2.

Indulging in un-necessary chit-chat, like about cricket cinema stars

cinemas politics caste feelings is highly discouraged.

3.

The food served in the hostel is highly nourished keeping the nutritional
needs of you since YOU are most important to us keeping away all the bad
outside tastes for which you may be used to by now thus maybe causing
some inconvenience to your appetite. But, you should be prepared to eat
this hygienic food. Parents are highly advised not to take your ward to
any outside food stalls even during outings given and discuss with
him/her about the ill-effects of eating under-nourished, un-hygenic food
served outside.

4.

We wont encourage any sort of bringing electronic gadgets, jewellery etc.,.

by you. If found, they will be CONFISTICATED and NEVER be given to you
or your parents under any circumstances.

5.

You must keep your class and your sitout place neat and clean. Who cares
better than yourself for your health to be best ?

KEEPING YOUR AXE SHARP

Once upon a time a very strong woodcutter asked for a job to a timber merchant, and he got it. The pay
was really good and so were the working conditions. For that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do
his best. His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work.

The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees Congratulations, the boss said. Carry on that way!.
Very motivated with the bosss words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he could bring only
15 trees.
The third day he tried even harder, but could bring 10 trees only. Day after day he was bringing less and
less trees. I must be losing my strength, the woodcutter thought.
He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.
When was the last time you sharpened your axe? the boss asked.
Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut more trees for you.
If we never listen to such apologies in all your stay in MIIT,

the miracle is within YOU. Hence, expect no miracle from us.

YES. You are a miracle.
YOU can achieve anything in your life, whatever the hurdles
may come.
Stephen Hawking, great physicist who denied the existence of GOD, is all in
praise as next to Albert Einstein, is a totally paralysed person who could not
speak, could not move, could not eat and always in his mobile computerized
wheel chair. Does it prevent him to become famous ?

BELIEVE in YOURSELF.

WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT FROM US

CERTAINLY NO MIRACLES once again.
Everything lies in the way how you, the student strive to
achieve your goal.
We provide you the guidance needed to achieve your goal.

1. OUR METHODOLOGY
In all these three years since our inception, we experimented with wide variety of
students and studied their behaviour and mentality.
We observed that most of the students could not get through because they fail to
plan. Sincerely, most students find it difficult to determine exactly how much time, they
should spend in activities in studying. This is particularly important right at the beginning
of the study so as to make an effective study plan.

This is complicated even more by the fact that every chapter requires different
amount of time. Even different subjects require different amounts of time in theory and
problems.
The different questions that come to the mind of the student are:

How much time should be spent in reading from the textbook?

Are the notes enough? Can I manage without reading the textbook?
Is there anything to read from the textbook in Mathematics?
How much time should I spend in solved examples given in the IITJEE course material.
How much time should be allocated to a certain topic?
How much time should be spent on a problem that is not getting solved before looking at the
solution or asking for help?
How much time should I spend in testing at home?
How should I calculate the total time required?

We have tried to answer these questions by giving an indicative time plan.

IIT JEE study Planner: Daily timetable

All of us know how to prepare a daily timetable. It is an essential tool in setting up a
daily routine. However, most of us have stopped using this powerful tool. The biggest
reason that students state for stopping the use of timetables is that its ineffective.

It does not work

We cant follow the timetable. It makes us feel bad
I do better without a timetable
It creates pressure
It is never possible to follow the timetable 100%. Timetable is just a tool to guide us in
utilizing our time. It reminds us to start work when we want to. If the timetable is
unsuitable, we should change it to suit our schedule.
These are all valid reasons.
However, we face these problems because of the manner in which we use the
timetable.
We have a habit of focusing on the failures. If we have been able to follow the
timetable 80% of the time, we look at the 20% when we could not follow and declare
it a failure. In reality the 80% time that was effectively utilized made it a success.
However, this tool can only work if we look at its success instead of the failure.

We feel bad only when we look at the failures.

It is the nature of the human psyche to expand whatever it focuses on. If we focus
too much on the failure then we will only find failure. In reality, failure does not
exist. It is just another attempt to success. The attempt transforms into failure
when we stop attempting.
In reality, we work on some kind of a timetable even without writing it. This timetable
is etched in our heads. Since it is not written, there is no measurement possible.
When we write down the timetable, it will allow us exact measurement of the
utilization of our time. You can hope to increase your performance only if you have a
way to measure it. Without measurement, any change is performance is a mere
perception. It may or may not reflect reality.

But, we at Master IIT Academy devised a time table that caters to

all the needs of the student in lines of his/her biological clock.

2. STUDY ENVIRONMENT
We create a competitive study group.
Preparing a competitive study group :
We believe that the best source of cooperation is competition. Working with a
competitive study group goes a very long way in the successful preparation of IITJEE.
When you decide to study in groups, you recreate a cooperative environment to
multiply your knowledge exponentially.
Students can learn very quickly by sharing their knowledge, skills and
resources.
We encourage the students to form competitive groups with certain guidelines
giver hereunder.
Group formation guidelines
Look for people who are experts in certain subjects and topics.

Seek diversity in expertise. There should be at least one expert from each subject.
Within a subject, look for experts in different areas like organic chemistry, physical
chemistry, calculus, co-ordinate, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics etc.
This could lead to having a group that is very diverse. It is good because you may
also have different learning styles represented in your group.
It may not be possible to find all experts from the friend circle itself. So, it is
important to seek out experts from other areas.
Make a study group of five to seven people (Larger groups get unwieldy. Groups with
less than 5 are difficult to sustain)

How to study in groups?

Ask your friends for clarifications of doubts.
Quiz and challenge each other with questions from the IITJEE syllabus.
Share useful concepts and questions
Be very eager to help. Answer and teach whenever somebody has a problem.
If you have to teach a concept, you have to have complete clarity and understanding
of the concept. So you are not only helping the other group members, but also you
are reinforcing your own knowledge.
Someone should take the role of the session leader to keep the session productive.
Take a few minutes at the end of the session to evaluate what youve done.
Meeting of the competitive groups.

These teams meet more once in two weeks and share their doubts and try to clarify
from within themselves under the supervision of the concerned lecturers, thus
inculcating Group Discussion Strategy developing good thinking capabilities so that
the student can tackle any grim situation in the Examination hall on the Zero day
confidently.
These meets clearly give us the required inputs for assessing their learning
capabilities and to perform SWOT analysis and also giving our lecturers an ample
information to change their lecture delivering according to the skill of the students.

PROCRASTINATION IS A VIRUS

GET RID OF IT
There was once a man who had four sons. The man spent his time in earning wealth honestly for his
family and teaching his sons values like faith, love, unity, etc. His sons however grew up to be quite
greedy and were always fighting among themselves for money and their fathers property.
The man was very unhappy to see his sons' problems, and believed that if they could set aside their
greed and unite, all would be well.
Once, the man became seriously ill. He felt that he did not have very long to live. On hearing this news
all his sons began inquiring about what he would leave for each of them. The man was very sad and
decided to try one last time to make them see sense. He asked his wife to collect wooden sticks and to

tie them in a bundle. He told her to keep the bundle in a big wooden box. They invited their sons with
their families the next day to give them their share of his property.
Next day everyone gathered at his house. All of them stood around his bed. He called his youngest son
and said, "Dear son, can you bring the wooden box to me? I have kept all my savings in it. I would like
to pass them on to you."
All the sons were curious about this big box and began imagining how much gold, diamonds and
money there would be in such a big box. The man observed everyone quietly. He then called his eldest
son and said, "Dear son, can you open the box? Take out its contents and keep them on the table."
The eldest son said, "Yes of course, father. I am your most obedient son. I know that you love me the
most and have saved a lot of money for me. I am very eager to see your treasure." He then opened the
wooden box. To his disappointment the big box was empty except for a bundle of sticks. He was
shocked and angry, but did not utter a word. He removed the bundle of sticks and kept it on the table.
His father then asked him to take the bundle of sticks in his hand and said, "Can you break the sticks?"
The eldest son tried hard to break the bundle with his hands and then with his feet, but he could
not break any of the sticks. Each of them took turns, but none of them could break even one stick.
Then the father asked the eldest son to untie the sticks. He asked him to pick up a stick and said, "Can
you break the stick now?" His son could break one stick quite easily. He then asked the rest of them to
try. Everyone could break an individual stick.
The father said, "My dear sons, if you are united like the sticks tied in a bundle, you will be strong and
no one will be able to harm you. But if you fight between yourselves out of greed, you will be easily
defeated."

In the same way if you study each and every days lessons,
there
will not be any apprehensions and last minute preparations during
examinations. Hence, we always insist a worry-free and tensionfree study environment, that one can inculcate after
understanding the essence of the above story.

THEN WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE US ?

At Master IIT, teaching is not merely a profession. It is a dedication to help students
to not only succeed in IIT JEE and other engineering exams, but to creating a passion for
scientific discovery and logical thinking, which would help them succeed in all aspects of
life. A few minutes of classroom coaching at Master IIT is equivalent to hours and hours of
study work required by the students otherwise. Difficult concepts are presented in such a
form that students find them very simple and easy to comprehend.
Most people seem to be asking this question all the time.

* Which is a better course material?

* How should I choose the best coaching college?
The old IIT JEE coaching brands have no experience in Objective type problem
solving techniques. In this context one can understand that emerging brands in IIT JEE
coaching have better material than most old ones. In fact, buying course material from old
brands is a recipe for disaster.
How does one choose the course material?
We have listed down some of the critical parameters that should be seen by the
students and parents while choosing the course material
Based on the New IITJEE Pattern
Established teachers in old brands are well aware of the Old IITJEE Pattern. They have
no clue of the nuances of the new pattern. Just changing the problems from descriptive to
objective type is not enough. A good course must be good on the following parameters:
Is it time managed?
The biggest problem faced by students is managing time. The course should have a
time plan to itself. Having a course material with a lot of problems is of no use unless we
know the time to be spent on it. Some course materials try to give a lot of material making
it impossible to complete. The total course material should be balanced in such a manner
that a student can complete it within the time available.
Strategies on solving objective type problems
Since, most of the traditional instructors did not face any objective type problems,
they dont know the methods of attempting objective type problems. A lot of problems can
be solved by elimination of wrong alternatives, intelligent guessing, modulating the speed,
speed reading etc. The course should have special focus on the above.
Synchronization with the school syllabus
Since most students now have to prepare along with Class XI XII, the problem of
managing IIT JEE preparation along with school studies has become more acute. The
course should be such that it benefits students in synchronized study.
We at Master IIT Academy devised a best method to cope up with the material needs
of the student keeping the time factor into consideration. We provide the necessary
material prepared all by not only our faculty but also the important handouts from other
coaching centres as well, because no one is THE BEST in the competitive sector, thus

giving the student the better material to check his skill and also giving a chance to
compare his/her skill with students of other coaching centres.
The study material covers every aspect of each topic and is completely self-sufficient.
So much is our confidence in our study material, that we consciously ask our students to
rely solely on MIIT material, and not consult any other book or guide. We regularly upgrade
our course material with appropriate modifications to meet the changing pattern and
syllabus of the IIT JEE every year.
* Testing and Evaluation
Two years of arduous preparation boils down to doing well on that all important day
of the IIT JEE exam. The very nature of this exam instils a lot of pressure in students and
hence it is very important to build the right examination hall temperament so that
students can tackle pressure, surprises and create dynamic exam-management strategies
quickly. Hence testing, assessment and frequent mock examinations form the core of MIIT's
pedagogy.

Class Tests are conducted regularly in the class to assess the understanding of the
topics by the students. Many of these would be in the form of Surprise Quizzes, so that
students are forced to be regular in their preparation.
The Test Series, held at regular intervals, simulate the pattern and timing of the
actual IIT JEE and are held at multiple Test Centres providing a real Exam-like experience
to the students. These are national level tests taken by our students across India and the
ranks achieved in these test are good indicators of what ranks can be expected in the IIT
JEE. Students are given extensive practice on all possible question formats. These include
MCQs, assertion-reasoning, comprehension based, match the column and other innovative
question formats.
The most important aspect of testing process is through analysis of
performance and benchmarking with the best performers. MIIT's Analytics and
Reporting engine provides very high level of analytics, benchmarking reports and even
diagnostics after each test. It gives a snap-shot of the strength and weakness in the various
subjects and topics, over a period of time. Moreover, personalized and advanced reports
like Test Analysis Reports help a student evaluate the various factors which impact his/her
performance. They help the students to know where they stand and the mistakes they have
made as compared to other students of the same level.
