Introduction
Structure of the Manual
The A1700 meter Users Manual consists of a number of Chapters containing information on
how to install, program and read the meter. Each Chapter is self contained so that for specific
information such as installation, only that part of the manual needs to be referred to.
Each Chapter can therefore be distributed as a document in its own right.
An overview of the meter is given in Chapter 2. This includes information on meter
configurations and the communications associated with the A1700 meter.

Manual Numbering System


The manual numbering system is defined as follows:
M120 - (A1700) 001 - (Manual variation) - 1 (Chapter number) - A (Issue)

Sections and their Contents


The contents of the manual are divided into the following Chapters:

Chapter 1 - Introduction (M120 001 1)


Chapter 1 contains a general description of the manual itself.

Chapter 2 - Overview (M120 001 2)


Chapter 2 contains general information on the A1700 meter including configuration and
communications.

Chapter 3 - Hardware (M120 001 3)


Chapter 3 contains a description of the A1700 meter and firmware variations.
This includes details of features available including energy measurement and data collection.

Chapter 4 - Communications Modules (M120 001 4)


Operating and Installation Instructions for all types of Communications Modules including,
RS232, RS485 and PSTN modem. General information and configuration data for setting up
PAKNET Radio and the Elster GSM modem, Siemens M20 and Wavecom GSM modems are
also included.

Chapter 5 - Input/Output Modules (M120 001 5)


Chapter 5 contains general information and installation instructions for Output Module types
MODVAB (three solid state relays and one 5A relay), MODVAC (four solid state relays) and
Input Module MODVAL (four inputs for collecting data from external meters).

Chapter 6 - Software Support (M120 001 6)


This Chapter contains full documentation for Power Master Unit Software Support.
This includes programming the PPM and A1700 meter. It is fully integrated with the multivendor CHIRPS system for Hand Held Unit applications.

Chapter 7 - Installation Instructions (M120 001 7)


A guide to the installation of the A1700 and fault finding is given, with full reference to Health
and Safety.

Chapter 8 - A1700 IEC 870 Meter (M120 001 8)


A guide to the features and installation of the A1700 IEC 870 meter is given, with full reference
to Health and Safety.
Note: reference should be made to M120 001 3 for the standard features of this meter.

Chapter 9 - Transformer Loss Compensation Meter (M120 001 9)


This Chapter contains a guide to the features and installation of the A1700 meter with
Transformer Loss Compensation.
