Approved for todays and tomorrows environmental requirements
Thanks to its high efficiency rating, the DH12E has low emissions. The
exhaust gases are cleaned still further with the help of SCR (Selective
Catalytic Reduction) technology. With this system, an additive called
AdBlue is injected into the exhaust gases before they pass through an
SCR catalyst, transforming the nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen
gas and water vapour. As a result, the emissions are so low that the
engine meets the EUs Euro 4, Euro 5 (incentive) and EEV* (Enhanced
Environmentally friendly Vehicle) emissions classes. Since the exhaust
treatment takes place without affecting the engines combustion, this
also means that fuel consumption is lower compared with Euro 3.
Engine management integrated in the vehicles own
electronic system
The DH12E engine is equipped with Volvo EMS (Engine Management
System) which means that the engines functions are controlled entirely electronically. By controlling the fuel injection volume, pressure
and timing with immense precision, the engines performance can be
optimised to suit each driving situation. The result is low fuel consumption and a minimum of noise and exhaust emissions. EMS also
provides advanced scope for diagnosis and fault-tracing.
High operating reliability and long service life
The DH12E engine is built for a long and reliable life. It features a
single cylinder head with a steel gasket and an induction-hardened
camshaft and crankshaft. The DH12E features piston cooling. The
pistons upper part and the piston ring zone are cooled effectively by
spraying oil in under the piston crown. The oil pump is gear-driven and
is powered by the engines timing mechanism. All this together makes
the DH12E highly reliable and gives it a long service life.
