11. (a)(i) In a bolt factory machines A, B, C manufacture respectively 25%, 35% and

40% of the total of their output 5, 4, 2 percent are defective bolts. If a bolt is
drawn at random from the product and is found to be defective. What are the
probabilities that it was manufactured by machine A, B and C?

(b)In a test on 2000 electric bulbs, it was found that bulbs of a particular make,
was normally distributed with an average life of 2040 hours and standard deviation
of 60 hours. Estimate the number of bulbs likely to burn for (i) more than 2150
hours (ii) less than 1950 hours (iii) more 1920 hours but less than 2100 hours. (16)
12. (a) A random sample of 121 checking account at a bank showed an average daily
balance of $280. The standard deviation of the population is known to be $ 66. (i)
Find the standard error of the mean. (ii) Construct a 95% confidence interval for
the mean (iii) Construct a 99% confidence interval estimate for the mean. (16)

(b)(i) A test was given to a large group of boys whose scored on the average 64.5
marks. The same test was given to a group of 400 boys who score on the average
62.5 marks with a standard deviation of 12.5 marks. To test the mean for the
above data.
(8)
b(ii) Random samples of 400 men and 600 women were asked whether they would
like to have a flyover near their residence. 200 men and 325 women were in
favour of the proposal. Test the hypothesis that proportions of men and in favour
of the proposal are same against that they are not at 5% level.
