OCEAN GATE Mayor Paul J. Kennedy, who presides
over one of Ocean Countys tiniest towns, has positioned himself to become one of its highest-paid elected
officials.
Amid the holiday hubbub between Christmas and
New Years, the Borough Council voted to boost the salary range for mayor to a maximum of $75,000, up from
$5,000. In 2014, Kennedy claimed no salary as mayor,
but collected stipends for other jobs in the municipality totaling some $50,000.
He stands to receive even more than that in 2015.
The compensation ordinance, adopted in a 4-2 vote
Dec. 30, also set forth salary ranges for 44 other salaried positions and 20 additional jobs paid at an hourly
rate, many including pay increases. It was the second
time in 2014 that the council adjusted the local salary
guide.
