Shell Stitch Doily Pattern

Materials: Clark's O. N. T. or J. & P. Coats Mer-cerized Crochet. Size 30, 2 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook, No. 7, 8, or 9.
Ch 5, join with sl st to form a ring. 1st row: Ch 3 (to count as 1 d c), 20 d c in ring. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of 1st ch-3 (21 sts). 2nd
rnd: Ch 5, l s c in 1st d c (1 ch-5 loop formed), * ch 5, 1 s c in next d c, and repeat from * around ending with 1 s c in sl st (21
loops). 3rd rnd: S1 st in 1st and 2nd ch sts of 1st loop, * ch 5, 1 s c in next loop, and repeat from * around, ending with 1 s c in loop

where the 2 sl sts were made.

4th, 5th and 6th rnds: Same as 3rd rnd. 7th rnd: Ch 3 (to count as 1 d c), 2 d c in 1st loop, ch 2, 3 d c in same loop (1 shell
formed); * 3 d c in next loop, ch 2, 3 d c in same loop (another shell), and repeat from * until there are 21 shells in rnd. 8th rnd: l s c
in 3rd ch of 1st ch-3 in 7th rnd, * skip d c group, 3 d c under ch-2, ch-2, 3 d c in same place (1 shell), skip d c group, 1 s c in space
between 2 shells, and repeat from * around.
9th rnd: * 1 d c in s c, shell over shell, and repeat from * around. 10th rnd: * 2 d c in 1 d c, shell over shell, repeat from * around.
11th rnd: Between 2 d c make 1 d c, ch 1, 1 d c in same place, shell over shell, repeat from * around. 12th rnd: * Over ch-1 make
1 d c, ch 2, 1 d c in same place, shell over shell, repeat from * around.
13th rnd: * Over ch-2 make 1 d c, ch 3,1 d c in same place, shell over shell, and repeat from * around. 14th rnd: * Over ch-3 make
1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c in same place, ch 1, shell over shell, ch 1, repeat from * around. 15th rnd: * Over ch-3 make 1 d c ,ch 3, 1 d c in
same place, ch 2, shell over shell, ch 2, and repeat from * around.
16th and 17th rnds: * Over ch-3 make 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c in same place, ch 3, shell over shell, ch 3, repeat from * around. 18th rnd:
* Over ch-3 make the following: 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c. Then ch 3, 1 s c over next ch-3, ch 3, shell over shell, ch
3, 1 s c over next ch-3, ch 3, and repeat from * around.
19th rnd: * 1 s c over ch-3 after 1st d c, ch 3, over next ch-3 work the following: 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c. Then ch
3, 1 s c over next ch-3, ch 3, and over shell make the following: 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c, ch 3, 1 d c. Then ch 3, and repeat
from * around. Join last ch-3 to 1st s c with sl st. 20th rnd: Ch 5, 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook (to form a pFig. 27), ch 2, 1 s c in
next loop, repeat from * around. Fasten and break thread.
