USDA seeks applications for grants

to help finance Rural Broadband

USDA Rural Development Montana State

Director Anthony Preite announced that USDA
is soliciting applications for Fiscal Year (FY) 2015
Community Connect Program grants. The program
provides grants to establish essential broadband
services in rural communities where it is currently
not available.

Many rural communities in Montana do not have
access to broadband, said Preite. USDAs Community
Connect Grant Program ensures that rural residents
have the ability to run businesses, get the most from
their education, and benefit from the infinite services
that fast, reliable broadband provides.

The minimum amount of grants awarded will be
$100,000; the maximum is $3,000,000. The deadline
for applications to be submitted is February 17, 2015.
Last year, USDA announced new rules to better
target Community Connect grants to areas where
they are needed the most. To view the rules, go to:

Since its inception, the Community Connect
program has funded 237 projects with investments of
$149 million.

A rodeo bonus

MHSRA joins with PRCA

for Rough Stock Challenge

The Montana PRCA Pro Rodeo Circuit and the
Montana High School Rodeo Association have joined to
organize the first High School Rough Stock Challenge
at the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals in Great Falls
January 16-18.
The brainchild of the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit
Board, the Montana High School Rough Stock Challenge
will be the very first event of its kind at any PRCA rodeo
in the nation and intends to engage youth and encourage
them to participate in the sport of pro rodeo. The program
will expose youth to a larger audience and help them get a
start in rodeo.

The top six high school contestants in the bareback
and saddle bronc riding will compete through the three
day event. Three bareback and three saddle bronc riders
will compete on each of the first two days, with the top
three coming back on Sunday.

This is a Montana Pro Rodeo program to help increase
youth involvement in the sport of rodeo and we are excited
to be the first and only Professional Rodeo Circuit to
come up with such a program involving youth and will be
implementing it into the 36th annual MPRF, says Jim Croff,
president of the Montana PRCA Pro Rodeo Circuit Board.
