From the Desk of Fr. Underwood:

Wine, Cheese, Art and Everything Chocolate! A
few years ago, I hosted a really fun evening called
"Wine, Cheese, Art and Everything Chocolate". It
was an event with great food, wine and beer,
chocolate desserts, entertainment, and an art
auction of works from local artists. In addition to a
really good time, we raised some much-needed
money for Catholic Education.
I will be sponsoring this event once again, right here at St. Lawrence
Saturday, January 17th from 6:30-8:30pm. Our goal is to raise $30,000 that
night to help with much-needed maintenance issues and upgrades to our
current St. Lawrence buildings. The goal of this event is to "Secure the
Future." Tickets are available for purchase after Mass, at the parish office or
by calling Fr. Underwood at 765-742-2107. Tickets are only $25 per person
and space is limited.
The Spiritual Life of St. Lawrence Parish Our primary purpose for
existing as a parish is to lead people to Heaven. We know that the residents
of Heaven are called Saints. We should all strive for this goal by living
holy lives now!
I was most impressed with how many people during the Advent season
expressed this desire through their involvement here at Church. Our Tuesday
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Evening Prayer, and Confessions were
well-attended and lines for the Sacrament of Reconciliation were long. Many
people encountered Gods grace and showed us their love for Jesus Christ.
Stay tuned as we continue to explore more opportunities in the future to
nourish your familys spiritual life.
Where do we stand with Fruitful Harvest 2014? The generosity of
St. Lawrence parishioners has shown forth again. We have accepted
$229,345 in pledges from 500 of our 1,300 families. While we have not yet
met our $267,885 goal, we are getting close and our per-family pledge
amount is higher on average than in the past. Thank you to all who have
made a pledge and contributed to this important diocesan work that supports
our parish.
Please know that we do have to guarantee 90% ($241,096.50) of our goal
and the remainder that is not paid at the end of the campaign in 2016 will
have to be paid out of parish funds. If you have not yet had a chance to
participate in this, please call the parish office to be involved.
Its Flu Season Last week, we re-introduced the Flu Season precautions in
our parish. We want to do our part to prevent the spread of disease and keep
our parishioners healthy. We will not be distributing the Precious Blood,
holding hands during the Lords Prayer, or shaking hands during the sign of
peace until things start looking better (possibly around Easter). A few things
to keep in mind:

If you are sick, its better to stay home and get well. (Missing
Mass because you are ill is NOT a Mortal sin)

Use hand sanitizer and wash your hands regularly.

REMEMBER... Whether you receive just the host or just from the cup,
you still receive the fullness of Jesus Christ.

RCIA Rite of Christian

Initiation
During the 2nd phase of the RCIA
process, The Catechumenate, the
catechumens and candidates now gather with the
Catholic community on Sundays for the first part of
the mass, during which, together, we hear the
Scriptures, respond to them, and reflect on the
meaning of God's Word for them personally and as
community through the homily. After the homily, they
are dismissed, and with their catechist, to continue a
process of reflection and application of the Word of
God proclaimed in the Sunday assembly. The bulletin
boards have pictures of each of the candidates and
catechumen with their sponsors. When you see them
please welcome them to our parish.
Please keep the Catechumens and the Candidates in
your prayers as they journey toward the Easter Vigil,
when they will become full members of our faith
community. There are no more Rites until Lent
begins on February 18, 2015.
Inquiry will resume sessions the second and fourth
Sunday of each month beginning January 11th. If you
are interested in attending an inquiry session please
call the Parish Office at 742-2107 or Jim at 447-2939.

worthy of another's love and trust? This course explores
John Paul II's understanding of love as self-gift, loving
through our bodies and doing it in the context of
living for our families, our society and our culture. For

Marriage Moment A trip down Memory

Lane #10: First home. Homes can be
wonderful, but they can also take a lot of work.
Remember the first home you shared together
whether it be a house, a rental, or a tent. What
did you like most about sharing the same
dwelling? Did you have any decorating or
lifestyle disputes?
Parenting Pointer Many children are
baptized soon after birth and much later
confirmed. Others come to Baptism as adults.
What difference has Baptism made in your
life? (Really! Think about something specific.)
Once you have your own answer talk to your
children about their baptisms. Show photos.
Reenact it.
PARISH NURSE NEWS
The Parish Nurses has small healing blankets
available at the Parish Office. These blankets are
meant for anyone in need of any kind of healing, the
sick, the homebound, or the lonely. They are made of
fleece-like material with a cross. They have been
blessed at Mass and are available at the parish office.
The blankets are given to comfort the person and to
let them know that they are being prayed for daily.
There is a prayer card with the blanket that can be
said daily by the recipient. Please feel free to take as
many as you would like.
