Dear Family,

1989

Friends and Fellow Christians,

This past month has been a very busy one.

School i s
coming to a close here and some of the programs w i l l be
changing for the summer months.

We received a letter from a lady in Kirkaldy, Scotland

yO nlX# yesterdayShe is 100 years old and is both deaf and

^
blind. She somehow learned that we will be going there to
rminister.

She said she sent a communion service with 140

cups and S trays to Springdale College for us to pick, up

on our way to Forres.
This is a gift from her to the
Forres Christian Fellowship.
Pv^aise the Lord ! ! !
Her
letter was a real encouragement to us, she told us to lean

V_^on the Lord and He will take care of us as He has taken

care

of

her.

Pt

this point,

although we don't

have all

our support

committed, we are ^ang._.ahead and applying for Our visas

and proceeciing as ff"~^we were going as planned.

'

We kno^^'

that the Lord will provide the funds when tlie time is
right.
Please pray for us that we will be faithful to His

Will for us and see the doors that He opens.

ur daughter^ Terri,'' graduated fv^om

Osark Christian

College last Saturday.

We spent a week in Joplin and it
was good to renew old acquaintances and spend time with
our family.
Terri will be staying with
us for the summer

and will be going to tylajj^pjuis^ros^exico in the fall.

While
there she will be working with a
missionary, T^rry
ing, and interpreting his sign larigllage "into Spanish
so the people there will

hear the Gospel.

She will

also be

interpreting from Spanish to sign language for the hearing

Spanish to communicate with the Missionary.

She will be |
teaching deaf Mexican children to sigvi. Pray for her that/'
God will help her to accomplish these goals there.

July 1989

Dear Friends,

Relatives,

Brothers & Sisters in Christ

Greetings in the Lordf!! fts you can see, July 1 has come and gone
and we are s t i l l here in the United States.
for

There are several reasons

this:

1.

We do not have all of our support

in place at this time.

We

need $2,800.00 per month and we have committed only $675-00 per month.

We need $21,000.00 one-time moving expenses and we have only $5,000.00.

2.

We cannot apply for our visas until we can guarantee the

Britishi Government

3.

where our support

is coming from.

Our> incorpov^at ion papers have not come back yet.

PLEftSE PRftY EARNESTLY FOR THESE NEEDS!!

We have had a very busy month in June with VBS and all the summer

programs beginning.

We were the missionaries for the week of VBS here

in Michigan City and Jeanne taught a class of Jr. High age children,
several of whom are considering making decisions for Jesus.

Pray for

thern. The following week we helped canvass doov^-to-door in the area of

the church taking a survey to help us assess the changing needs of the
neighborhood.

We had a good response.

We are preparing to go to the North Rmerican Christian Convention

next week.

Pfter that we will be at a camp in Howard, PR for a week

then on to Massachusetts and New Hampshire to speak at several churches

there.

We will be gone nearly one month.

Pray that God will use us to

glorify Hirn and that we will increase our support base.

We have postponed our target date until January 1. Those of you

who are sending support now, please continue to do so as this is the
means by which we can go to other churches and present the work in
ScotlandIt is impossible to travel and hold down a job at the same
t irne.

We still believe that it is the Lord's will that we go to Scotland

and are working in that direction.

When His time is right the doors
will open. Until that time we will continue to work for Him where we
are and share with others in His Body the needs in Scotland in hopes
that we will

soon be enabled to go,

September 1989

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Well, it is us again! It is hard to believe it is already

September.
We are back from the East coast and almost caught up with
all we got behind in. Let us fill you in on what has taken place since
our last newsletter.
1.

Finances

We secured another $70.00 per month

in
committed
suppport. That puts us at about $725.00 per month committed.

Our need is about $2,800.00 per month. As you can see, we

have a ways to go. We would like to remind you to please be
faithful if you have committed an amount already.
My
position as Interim Associate Minister here will be ending
soon.

If everyone sends in what

has

been

committed

on

regular basis I will be able to work full time traveling to

raise the remainder of our support. We have booked our plane
reservations for January 16, 1990 and they must be paid for
by December 17, 1989. We don't have all the support yet but
we know that God will provide.
One reason we booked our
tickets now is because of the price war.
We were able to
reduce our one-time need for transportation by several
thousand dollars by booking now. Please pray that the Lord
will provide these funds.
If you have been considering
supporting us please let us know so that we can plan
accordingly.
2.

Victories

While we were the missionaries at Sylvan Hills camp in

Howard, Pennsylvania, the week after the N.A.C.C., we were
proud witnesses to the 11 decisions that were made for the
Lord. Those 11 decisions were from only A8 campers.
That's
close to 25% of the campers.
Praise the Lord!)
There were
6 baptisms, 2 rededications and 3 committments to the mission
field.

Praise God!

Jeanne was able to

I was able

We were both blessed by the many wonderful Christian

people who shared their homes and lives with us during our
trip. We are much richer for having met them!!l

Dear friends, we really need your prayers. As many of you know,

we have been working for about 18 months to raise sufficient funds to

go to Scotland.
I can assure you that the hardest part of mission
work is raising support. I want you to know that we are not asking
you or your congregation to support Jeanne and I. We are asking you
to do all that you can to support the work that God has commissioned
us to do. Please pray that His will be done in our lives and the
lives of the lost in Scotland.

Here is an update on the Henckel Clan:

Terri Kay in on the field in Matamoros, Mexico working with Terry

and Stephanie Bowling as of August 29, 1989.
Stephanie Bowling
suffered a cerebral hemorrhage last month and the need for help there
is crucial. Please pray for them!!!
Pamela was unable to enter the service because of past physical

problems. She is now living in Memphis, Tennesse with Kathi and J.D.
Collins, her aunt and uncle. She is attending beauty college and
training as a manager for Bominoes Pizza. She is doing great at both.
Charlie is living with us and finishing his last year of high
school. He works for Jiffy Lube as Senior Lube Technician.
He has
just purchased a 1963 Ford Falcon convertible and is enjoying it
immensely.

Now, for the blockbuster news! On August 25th, in a beautiful

park on the shores of Lake Michigan,, Melissa became the wife of Mr.

Leroy Reagor. The time was stepped up because of Terri

Kay's
departure for Mexico. There will be a renewal of vows for Missy and
Leroy on October 7, 1989 at First Christian Church in Michigan City.
At that time Jeanne and I along with Leroy's parents will

our wedding vows.

also

renew

Please keep Missy and Leroy in your prayers as they

begin their new life in Christ together.

Also, please pray for Jeanne and I as we try to adjust to

having

three children move away in one month.

Again, Jeanne and I thank you for your support, financially ,

prayerfully and the letters of encouragement that you send. It means
so much to us.

keep them coming.

October 1989

Dear Family, Friends and Supporters,

Things are really starting to happen!

We are pleased to announce that we have
purchased a car, washing machine and refrigerator in Scotland.
Mr. and Mrs. Gary
Barnes, who have been working with Robert in Forres for a while, have decided to
pursue

an

opportunity

in

Vienna,

Austria.

Gary

called

to

see

if

we

would

be

interested in the above mentioned items. After discussion and prayer, we stepped out
and purchased these items.
We had budgeted these items in our one-time expense at
$6,000,00.

We were able to purchase these items for $1,025.00.

PRAISE THE LORD!!!

As we reported in our last writing we were able to book flight on January 16th
at a substantial savings.
Because of these doors being opened our one-time expense
is $13,000.00, instead of $22,000.00.
Of the $13,000.00 we have about $5,000.00 on
hand.
We are in need of a real committment by all those who have been watching to
see if we are really serious.

Folks, we are dead serious!!

As of October 1st, I will no longer be the Interim Associate Minister at First

Christian Church in Michigan City, Indiana.
We praise God for the 13 months of
learning from Roy Goodlet, Senior Minister at First Christian, and for the patience
and love shown to us by the leadership and congregation there.

Because I will have no income i t will be essential that our support grows.
I
will be on the road again talking to churches in order to raise support.
Please pray
for me!
We have tickets for January 16th that must be paid for by December 17.
That's just less than three months from now.
We will need to have assurance of our
support before we can apply for our visa.
At this time we have $800.00 per month
committed and we need $2,800.00 per month.
We know that God can supply this need in
time!!! He works through people like you to accomplish His Will, though.
You will notice we have enclosed a

committment card with each l e t t e r .

We would

like to ask you to seriously consider and pray about sacrificing the cost of one meal
out at a restaurant each month, approximately $10.00, so that the people in Scotland
have the opportunity to accept Jesus and spend eternity in heaven rather than hell.
We in America are blessed beyond belief.
Won't you consider sharing your spiritual
and financial wealth to help someone else?

All support can be sent either to us at 311 1/2 Tremont St., Michigan City, IN
46360 or to our forwarding agent. Bud Clapp, at Taking Christ to the Kingdom, PO Box
62, Joplin, MO

64801-0062.

We praise God for each and every one of you.

in seeking His Will in this matter.

We know that you will be faithful
