thermistor and engine coolant temperature switch. Check for a faulty
fuse. Repair or replace components as necessary. If compressor clutch
engages, go to next step.
3) Connect manifold gauge set to system, and check operating
pressures. On Sedan, dual-pressure switch should allow compressor
operation if system pressure is 30-384 psi (2-27 kg/cm ). On Wagon,

dual-pressure switch should allow compressor operation if system
pressure is 30-225 psi (2-22 kg/cm ).

COMPRESSOR
Removal
1) Discharge A/C system using approved refrigerant
recovery/recycling equipment. Remove compressor belt. Disconnect and
plug discharge and suction hoses at compressor.
2) Remove "O" rings and discard. On DOHC engines, remove
condenser fan assembly and alternator. Remove compressor with mounting
bolts set in compressor. On SOHC engines, remove compressor. On all
engines, use care not to spill compressor oil.

Installation
1) If a new compressor is being installed, measure amount
(ounces) of oil in old compressor. Subtract amount of oil in old
compressor from new compressor oil capacity (5.3 ounces). The
remainder of oil represents system oil capacity.
2) To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. On
DOHC engines, install compressor with mounting bolts set in
compressor. On all engines, coat new "O" rings with refrigerant oil
before assembling connections. Evacuate and charge system.
