Thanks to multilingualism we can speak more than one language has benefits and
advantages, not only personally but also in labor and professional. Communication
skills when traveling as well as the possibility of a better job, are just some of the
qualities of speaking more than one language.
Note that the languages are directly related to the educational, vocational,
recreational and personal development of all individuals in adulthood.
The prospect of employment increases considerably when one speaks a language
other than birth. The languages transcend borders and add the possibility of
smooth communication, it is also possible to apply for a job in that country, is a
possibility of geographical relocation.
Indigenous languages, like any other, are changing, are updated, but this process
will also dying. (Cruz, 2010) and there are several proposals to claim the cultural
heritage of indigenous peoples.
The first step towards the inclusion of indigenous languages, is to create
awareness that are national languages that deserve to be valued and respected,
and not see them as "dialects" from the point of view derogatory.
Not to insist despite all indigenous languages are not dialects, and is a pity that still
need to repeat it, but unfortunately it is still very common to hear from the mouths
of speakers and non-speakers of these languages. There is nothing that makes
them different from other languages, the Indians have a less comprehensive
phonological or syntactic system, nor have fewer lexical items referring to the
world, do not need gestures to complete its meaning, nothing that makes
incomplete . Call "dialects" implies a derogatory load.
It is necessary to overcome the vision of our current social system as the sole
source of social representation, ie stop completely exclude cultural events and
knowledge of previous peoples or originating on the pretext considered obsolete
and slightly progressive, taking as a starting point that our society is the symbol of
evolution.
We ask government authorities to respect us, do not isolate us, to take into
account the way we think and work things out. Who value our knowledge, accept
our way of life. Give us space for public policy decisions. We need to strengthen
our languages, that whenever we are more speakers of indigenous languages,
which are spoken spaces in the public and in schools. (INAH, 2010)
The government to respect their language and promote bilingual education in
indigenous communities, rather than promoting the use of Spanish as the only
language.
Raising public awareness about the current problems of indigenous and promote
respect for their customs, traditions and languages through education and inclusion
Recent estimates suggest that about 402 million people speak it as their first
language, and is used today by more than 1,000 million non-native speakers. And
this number will continue to grow, moreover, some 2,000 million people worldwide
what could be learning, concludes a recent report by the British Council. However,
in just over a decade it will speak three billion people, ie half of humanity. The
consequences of the advance of this linguistic tide are immeasurable. Within a few
generations and for the first time in the history of "homo sapiens", most of our
species will be able to communicate in one language.
This is the biggest blow to civilization, worldwide, over the past quarter century. In
most parts of the world most speak at least some English, so almost everywhere,
who knows, could "survive". This expansion is a real earthquake in the history of
mankind, one of the most important events that have happened to humanity since
the birth of language. No language had before achieved universality, and had gone
as far or as fast. it's the first time in history that it is possible to identify a language
as predominant.
The French outside France's days are numbered; Francophone Africa is changing
into English. The Portuguese Africa are leaving the Portuguese. The German
experienced a shy temporal progress in the emerging Eastern Europe, but
elsewhere outside Germany disappears. The Russian, who some time ago might
have thought I would have to learn it, is finished. In Japan they are learning English
and developing their own preferred variant. China will resist, but Mandarin and
Cantonese will not reach beyond its native speakers. There are newer Muslims
learn English to Arabic. Only Spanish is gaining importance and growing but
among the American people, who already speak English.
The Value Of Knowing How To Speak English
The English language is the easiest of all to learn. This is one reason why
prevailed in the United States. The descendants of the Germans, for example,
were far more numerous at the time of the birth of this nation; however, it was the
English who finally defeated.
For global consensus, English has been chosen as the language of international
communication. It is "de facto" the language of diplomacy in a "global" world in
which relations between countries are becoming more important. His knowledge is
required to work in the supra-governmental institutions such requirement. In 2001,
it became a query to the 189 member countries of the United Nations on the
desired language for communication between embassies. More than 120 chose
English, including Vietnam, countries that once formed the Soviet Union and most
of those in the Arab world, selected 40 French, and 20 opted for the Castilian.
That "status" has been conferred him through political, economic and military
dominance of mainly during the last two centuries, by EE. UU.
In the economic field, industry, business, international trade, the entire production
universe write, speak and read in English. Major airlines, for example, have
adopted as an official language. If you know that language, any worker they will
open almost every door in employment opportunities and improved from a median
wage employment to the highest executive levels. Just look at the job offers from
major newspapers. There are already many who use it every day, not only to
communicate with managers, also in positions of lesser responsibility knowledge
can become a core competency, machines, techniques used and are mainly in that
language.
To explain the great importance of English today, another important reason is the
scientific superiority of the United States and Britain in the twentieth century, with
important discoveries and technological advances. This century brought advances
in science and technology unimaginable to most: the automobile, the airplane, the
radio, television, radar, computers, rockets, missiles, atomic bomb and H-bomb.
Initially, these products were manufactured in both countries and were exported to
other parts of the world. However, as were developed, other nations were riding
their own industries and "importing" English-speaking technicians and scientists,
thus contributing to the strengthening and expansion of English.
In the field of studies, is a key tool for academic success, especially in certain
careers in which it is required to obtain the degree requirement. It is by far the most
popular language taught in schools throughout Europe, reaching 46% of students
in primary and 91% secondary. In Spain, however, despite the foreign language
being predominant, only reaches a percentage of 36%. There are some data that
put us in a clear disadvantage compared to countries like Denmark, the
Netherlands and Sweden where 80% of the population speaks the English
language fluently.
It has therefore been here a very rapid proliferation of Official Language Schools,
not to mention the large number of private academies created, where over 80% of
the enrolled students studying English. And every year numerous scholarships are
awarded to students for learning and recycling abroad. In addition, we should also
mention all travel and exchanges organized to Britain, the United States and
Canada, mainly by both state initiative and private, for conducting courses.
CONCLUSION
Finally, learning another language helps people understand that the world is not all
alike, that there are cultural differences and develop confidence in their social
relationships because it improves their interaction with the environment, preparing
them for the future that will become increasingly demanding. For as many times as
it is mentioned: "The illiterate of the future will be those who do not operate a
computer and not dominate another language".
Obviously, all this display is not the result of chance, but a clear demonstration of
the undeniable importance of English.
So, your domain has become an increasingly pressing need. It is, in short, a
language everyone, like it or not, we have to accept. And it's never too late to learn!
