CONCLUSIONS
Based on the computed t-test (two sample mean test) and tables, the growth rate of
Irradiated group of Palay seeds is faster that of the Non-irradiated group. Also from the
computed t-test, 6.20 is greater than the level of significance 2.58 at 0.01 %, therefore the null
hypothesis is rejected and accept the alternative hypothesis.
From all of these, the researchers infer and conclude that there is a difference between the
growth rates of Palay plants which the seeds are exposed in x-ray radiation compared to that of
the seeds unexposed to x-ray radiation.

RECOMMENDATIONS
For the improvement of the project, the next researchers to study the project is advised to
start the investigatory project almost 3-5 months before the submission period to be able to
observe the palay plants endosperm or fruit to prove that x-ray radiation not only hastens the
plants germination process but also helps to improve the quality of its fruit.

Introduction
Background of the study
Nowadays, Palay(Oriza Sativa Linnaeus) is the most important crop to millions of small
farmers who grow it on millions of hectares throughout the region, and to many landless
workers who derive income from working on these farms. In the future, it is imperative that
rice production continue to grow at least as rapidly as the population, if not faster. Farmers
encountered different problems because sometimes the weather is not appropriate for planting
and harvesting season. And most of the times, these problems causes a drop in the palay
productions of farmers.
To address this problem, the proponents made a way to create an alternative way that will
help the palay farmers in terms of, they can harvest their palay earlier.

Statement of the problems

This study aimed to determine the effects of x-ray radiation to the growth of palay seeds.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following question:
1. What make x-ray radiation be effective to enhance the growth of palay?
2. Does irradiated seeds grow faster than the non-irradiated group?
3. Does the irradiated seeds obtained a higher percentage in terms of its germination than
the non-irradiated group?

General Objectives
This study is made to be able to determine the effects of x-ray radiation in the
growth of palay seeds
Specific Objectives
1. To develop an alternative way in enhancing the growth of palay
2. To determine whether x ray radiation really do hastens the germination and growth
process of palay seeds
Significance of the Study
With this investigatory project, farmers problems like the low percentage in germination
of seeds and the growth of palay can be solved. This project can help the farmers to make the
growth of palay faster unlike the common ones.
For consumers, they will not be worry about the rice inflation or price hike regarding the
rices price. There would be enough supply for Filipino people. It also serves as a way for the
progression of the Philippine economy. And instead of we import rice from other Asian
countries, we will be the who will export rice to other countries.
Scope and Limitation
The study on enhancing the growth of palay using X-ray radiation is primarily centered
on its growth rate and germination percentage of the seeds.
This research is limited only to palay plants and the upper-mentioned issues regarding its
production.

The project was undertaken by the proponents from November 11,2013 to February 15,
2014 in Socorro, Oriental Mindoro and their school Leuteboro

National High School,

Leuteboro, Socorro, Oriental Mindoro.

PROPOSAL PAPER
Main Problem
Can X-ray radiation enhance the growth of Palay?
Specific Problems
1. What makes X-ray radiation be effective to enhance the growth of palay?
2. Does an irradiated seed grow faster and taller than the non-irradiated group?
3. Does the irradiated group of palay seeds obtain a higher percentage than the nonirradiated group in terms of its germination?
Title
The Effect of X-Ray Radiation on the Growth of Palay (Oriza Sativa Linnaeus)
Rationale
One of the major problems of palay farmers is the slow growth rate of palay and low
percentage of germination of its seeds. The farmers find it hard to make an affordable yet
effective way to solve this problem.
This is why the proponents arrived at this kind of problem. They wanted to help the palay
farmers to grow their plants faster and taller for a better yield.
Materials

60 palay seeds (with the same variety)

loam soil
water
small envelope

6 empty pots
Fertilizers

Procedures
First, the proponents will gather all the materials needed. Second, they will take the 30
seeds which is half the number of the total seeds on Delos Reyes Medical Hospital to have them
irradiated. Then they will plant the seeds on 3 pots labelled Trial 1A, Trial 2A, and Trial 3A.
While the pots labelled Trial 1B, Trial 2B, and Trial 3B which will serve as the control group will
be planted by the palay seeds that are non-irradiated. The seeds will be watered every day at
6AM and 5PM. The 3 setups will be observed and measured for the following 8 weeks.
