Catalog description
A detailed examination of neurocircuitry and function of the human brain and spinal
cord, and the etiology of common neurological disorders. Human Cadaver brains are
utitlized.
Rationale for Course
Neuroanatomy is typically taken during the first year of medical or dental school. This
course covers the same content as a typical first year medical school neuroscience course.
Taking this course is of great benefit for anyone planning on attending a professional
healthcare related program.
Student objectives and outcomes
Student will be able to understand the basic tracks of the brain and spinal cord and be
able to apply that knowledge to clinical presentations so as to be able to make an
informed judgment as to the neurological pathology.

We will be having class on Saturday, October 27th 8AM Noon
There will be four comprehensive exams, which will cover both lecture and lab. The
weight of each exam is given below.

The National Board of Medical Examiners Neuroscience Board Exam will be given
December 19, 8:00AM. Only students who are taking 2 Shelf exams can take one
of the exams at 1 PM that same day. If you score 500 or greater on the
Physiology Board Exam, your grade will be raised by one letter grade. Example,
C to B; C+ to B+; B+ to A.
No Class on Labor Day, September 2, 2013.

There is no refund for tuition if a student drops (withdraws) from a class after the last day

Every Monday at 8:00 AM a comprehensive lecture quiz will be given. Lab quizzes will
be given on Tuesdays at 1:30. I will count your 8 highest lecture quiz grades and 6
highest lab quiz grades. If you accumulate more than 8 (lec)/6 (lab) perfect quiz scores,
then each additional perfect score will add one point to an exam score. Missing a quiz for
any reason will result in a zero for that quiz. The quiz average will count 10% of your
final grade. Lab quizzes and lecture quizzes will count 5% each, totaling 10% of the final
grade.

C: 65.0 74.9

F: 59.9 and Below

The last day to drop this class is October 25, 2013. Please note that tuition refund is
only available if you withdraw from class during the FIRST week of the
semester. DO NOT ask me if you can drop the course after October 25. The
answer will be NO. Last day to withdraw from a class with 100% tuition refund
is September 5, 2013.
Please do not ask me what your quiz grades or exam grades are. You are
responsible for keeping track of your own grades.

Attendance: Lectures start at 8:00 AM and 1:30 AM. Excess tardiness will result in loss
of exam points. Strict adherence to Mississippi Colleges class attendance policy will
be followed. Any student whose absences, whether excused of unexcused, exceed
25% of the class meetings will receive a grade of F in the course. See The 20122012 Bulletin

Exam attendance policy. ALL make-up exams will be given on the last day of class at
the end of the semester, IF the absence is excused.
Each exam is designed to be a two hour exam. I will give you additional time on the
exams if you need it. Before each exam I will announce how much additional time will
be granted. Once that time has been established, there will be a 1% point reduction for
each minute over the time limit the exam is turned in.
Both the bubble sheet and the regular blank answer sheet must be filled in. If the blank
answer sheet is not filled in, there will be a 5% reduction in the exam grade.
You must indicate which version of the exam you have on the bubble sheet. If you fail to
indicate which exam version you have, I will deduct 2% off your exam grade.
Cell phones not allow out in the classroom after class begins. They are to be kept in your
book bag, purse or pocket. They are not allowed on the desk or in your lap. Before class
begins, turn cell phones OFF. Do NOT set your phone on Buzz. Off means Off. If you
are playing with your cell phone during class, I may deduct points off your grade.
Touching a cell phone after an exam is passed out will result in loss of points on the
exam.
Recording lectures is permitted. Videotaping lectures is NOT permitted.
Recording, video or audio or the taking of pictures during the review of quizzes and
exams is NOT permitted. Violation of will be considered a violation of our honor code
and will go onto your permanent record and will be reported to all professional school
you apply to. This may result in expulsion from the course or program. This violation
will be reported to any graduate or professional school you apply. Touching a cell
phone or other electronic devices is NOT permitted. During the review of exams,
students are not allowed to have anything on the desk except their bubble answer sheet.
Taking notes during the review is NOT permitted. If a student is absent on the day of the
review, the student forfeits the opportunity to review their exam.
Please do not ask me what your quiz grades or exam grades are. You are
responsible for keeping track of your own grades.
Students who audit the course are not allowed to take the exams and are not allow
to be present during a review of an exam.

During exams, the proctor has the right to move any student to another seat.
No food is allowed to be eaten in class.

Graduate Students will be given a 2-3 scholarly review papers to learn.
Undergraduates will be given 1 scholarly review paper to learn. An exam will be
given on the content of those papers and the score on that exam will constitute
10% of your final course grade. Exam date is TBA.

Lab rules.
Lab rule1 : you are NEVER permitted to take a cadaver brain or model out of the
lab.
Lab rule 2: please put back the cabinet models and brains. Do NOT leave them out.
That room is used for other lecture courses so models and brain cannot be left
out on the tables.
Lab rule 3: if you take a model apart, please put it back together before putting it
back into the cabinet.
Lab rule 4: you cannot play music in the lab in any form such that others can hear
it. Headphones are ok, as long as the music is low enough so that it does not
disturb anyone else.
