Repair guides Nokia N8 disassembly

If you want to buy a replacement screen, screwdrivers and other parts, you can order from us here: Nokia N8 screen
Tools required for disassembly: Torx screwdriver set, plastic tool such as a guitar plectrum or credit card, hot air gun or
hairdryer.
First remove the torx 4 screws on either side of the phone.

You can now pull the bottom cover off, as shown below.

Turn the phone over and lift the black plastic battery lid from the point shown.

With the battery lid removed your phone should look like below. Remove the battery by pulling the blue plastic tab,
indicated by the arrow below, that's sticking out of the end of the phone.

You should now have the battery removed, as shown below.

Open the HDMI cover at the top of the phone to reveal a torx 5 screw. Remove this screw.

Push the top cover in the direction shown by the arrows and then wedge something thin and flat, like the edge of
a credit card, in the gap. Then continue to push the top cover in the direction shown by the arrows. The top cover
should then come loose.

With the top cover removed your phone should look like below. Now remove the four circled torx 5 screws.

Use something like the edge of a credit card to lever the screen out. There are two clips on either side of the
screen, roughly in the middle where the credit card is in the photo below. These are the points where you should
try and lever the screen out. Do not try and lever the screen along the bottom as the screen will still be connected
at the bottom by two ribbons which could get damaged.

Pull the screen towards you and away from the phone, as shown below. Two ribbon connectors, circled, need to
be detached. They attach like a plug and socket. Just lever each one up, away from the phone, to unplug.

With the screen removed your phone should look like below.

Turn the screen over and use a hot air gun or hair dryer to heat it around the edge for about 30 seconds. Then
slide the edge of your plastic tool between the display and the touch screen. Only use the very edge of your
plastic tool and run it all the way around the display.

You should now have the display and touch screen separated, like below.

To remove the touch screen from its frame, use your hot air gun or hair dryer to heat it around the edge for about
60 seconds. Then firmly push your plastic tool between the touch screen and frame.

Some force is required so perhaps you're not using enough? It may be easier if you
simply buy the touch screen with the frame included. The touch screens on our site
include the frame so you don't need to follow that part of the guide - http://

I would take the phone apart, spray the circuit board with electrical contact cleaner and
gently brush the board with an old toothbrush to remove any possible residue and scale
and clean the circuit board. But there's no guarantee that water damaged phones can
be repaired.

Rob Lee how about recovery of pictures from the internal memory? i have the same
problem and although i've done backups there's some that weren't backed up and i'd
like to recover. could i for example remove the internal memory and solder it on another
phone to recover the files?

Hi,
I'm currently trying to replace a shattered screen on my Nokia N8 (it didn't respond well to being
dropped face down on a hard floor). However, when trying to take the casing off, one of the (Torx5)
screws has sheered off in the middle, so it just won't come out now. Any suggestions on how to
remove it as the screwdiver is now spinning in the middle of it? Also, am I able to buy replacement
screws as I can't seem to find them anywhere online? Any help or guidance appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Rob. Unfortunately I found your site after I'd already ordered a screen from ebay,
so fingers crossed the one I ordered from elsewhere is as good :-S. The screw is so
tiny and in a really awkward place, so I'm struggling to get anything on it, including pliers
:-S. When and if we do get it out, think I really will need a new screw, so any ideas on
that one please? If I do a search for Torx5 screws, lots of larger ones come up, so any
idea on a better description or whether you can source them please? Thanks

It's probably a torx 5 bolt that you're looking for. To extract the broken one, maybe try filing
the pointy end of a screw so that it's flat, then superglue it to the end of the broken torx
bolt.
