ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY CLEANING EXAMPLES (Based off USGBC LEED Standards)

Environmental Friendly cleaning includes the use of Environmental Friendly cleaning supplies
een certified by Green Seal have a reduced impact on building occupants
and a reduced impact on the environment
Requirement of Chemical and Janitorial Paper Products
Cleaning suppliers will purchase sustainable cleaning and hard floor and carpet care products, janitorial
paper products and trash bags that meet the required sustainability criteria.

The cleaning products meet one or more of the following standards for the appropriate category:
Green Seal GS-37 for General Purpose, Bathroom, Glass, and Carpet Cleaners Used for Industrial and
Institutional Purposes (A list of these chemicals appears at www.greenseal.org.)
Disinfectants, metal polish, floor finishes, strippers or other products not addressed by the above standards
meet one or more of the following standards for the appropriate product category:

Disposable janitorial paper products and trash bags meet the minimum requirements of one or more of the
following programs for the applicable product category
U.S. EPA Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines for Janitorial Paper and Plastic Trash Can Liners
(Minimum post-consumer recycling content of 20% for toilet tissue, 40% for paper towels, 30% for paper
napkins, 10% for facial tissue and 40% for general purpose industrial wipers.)

wherever possible. They will use concentrated products and mixing stations; furthermore provide evidence
that concentration ratios are adequate and accurate.
After meeting the above requirements, BofAML will determine whether more steps need to be taken to meet the
60% standard and will work with the supplier to determine the least cost method of meeting this requirement.

operate with a sound level lower than 80 dBA
oor buffers, scrubbing machines, etc.) should meet similar
criteria related to indoor air quality, noise and environmental impact
Requirement of Cleaning Equipment
Implement the use of janitorial equipment that reduces building contaminants and minimizes environmental
impact. Cleaning suppliers will purchase and use cleaning equipment that meets the required sustainability
criteria.
Performance Metric: 20% of the existing equipment used on site and all new equipment purchased must
meet at least one of the sustainability criteria listed below.

Property Managers and supplier managers will work with cleaning and janitorial providers to list and track
the equipment used on site, and whether it meets LEED program requirements such as:
ertified by the CRI Green Label testing program & operate at less than 70 dBA.
-powered floor buffers and
burnishers, is equipped with vacuums, guards and/or other devices for capturing fine particulates and
operates with a sound level of less than 70 dBA.
-powered floor equipment has high-efficiency, low-emissions engines with catalytic converters
and mufflers that meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) or Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) standards for the specific engine size and operate with a sound level of less than 90 dBA.
