Hello everyone and welcome back to what I know will be another fantastic year. We have had many
new families join our community; we especially welcome you to our school and look forward to
developing a strong partnership with you over the coming years. Additionally to the families of PrePrimary students who begin their formal education this year, welcome.
As with the beginning of every school year there are staff changes and this year is no different. Mr
Ben Sluiter returns from leave and we welcome Mrs Chelsea Roberts, PP Room 1, Mrs Sasha
Claughton, Year 4 Room 21 and Miss Libby Westerberg Year 5 Room 13. Mrs Sarah Wright has
gone on maternity leave and replacing her position in the office is Mrs Christine Tozer.

week, Monday 16 February at 7.00pm there will be a P&C meeting in the staff room. At this
meeting all the positions for office bearers will be spilled and new people elected. I urge all new
families to join our P&C and come to the meetings ( you do not need to take on a role). The P&C is
vital to our school. They support, through fundraising, to purchase much needed resources; run the
canteen the P&C owns the canteen, not the school, no P&C no canteen; and they operate the
uniform shop. Additionally it is a wonderful way to meet new people, develop friendships and
become involved in your childs education. So do yourselves a favour, lock the date into your diary
and I will see you there.
This week, Thursday 9.10am, there will be an assembly in the hall.

Attendance
We appreciate the efforts of parents to ensure their
children attend regularly. Students with numerous
absences face extra challenges academically, socially
and emotionally. Parents are reminded that all absences
require a written or verbal explanation. Text messages
can be sent to 0418 950 867.
Pre Primary
Pre Primary is compulsory, students are required to
attend school on the days it is open. Regular attendance
will provide your child with the best opportunity to learn
and develop important skills. Students who are absent
one day a week or more are likely to experience gaps in
their learning and may fall behind the other students.
It is important to encourage your child to develop regular
attendance from a young age to support good habits in
primary and secondary school.
Should you have any queries regarding the attendance
requirements for your child, please dont hesitate to
contact your childs class teacher or Barb Jeremic in the
office.
Medical Care Plans
Last week letters and forms were sent to all parents who
noted on enrolment cards that their child has a medical
condition. These forms are required for children who may
need medication or treatment at school. If your child has a
medical condition requiring regular medication, such as
ADHD, or emergency treatment such as epilepsy, severe
asthma, allergies etc., you will need to complete Health
Care Authorization forms. Please contact the school
office for the forms.
Head Lice
Tips for preventing head lice
Check your childs hair regularly for head lice and eggs
(nits). Use a metal fine tooth nit comb and plenty of hair
conditioner applied to the dry hair, to make the task easier and more effective. To help children sit still for this,
offer distracting activities, e.g. play a favourite video, provide games, encourage reading, offer a head massage
Tie long hair back. Braid long hair and/or put it up if possible.
Consider applying hair gel or mousse. These do not
prevent or repel lice but may help to keep stray hair
strands from contact with other heads.
Avoid sharing combs or brushes.
Remind your child to avoid head-to-head contact with
other children, e.g. when working at the computer with
others, or when playing, or hugging.
If your child has head lice please notify their teacher.
For more information: The Head lice Fact Sheet available
from the school
NITBUSTERS
WE NEED YOU!
Can you spare some time to help out with our Nitbuster
team? No special skills needed, just time and eyes!
Fortnightly checks and weekly treatments are the most
effective way to minimize infestations in the school.
We have a salon where, with consent, students can
have their hair treated.
Any volunteers would be most welcome. Contact Barb
Jeremic in the office for more information.

MANAGING STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

WHAT IS BULLYING?

The key to this approach is that the child is given a choice at each step to
follow directions or face increased consequences.
Students making GOOD CHOICES are acknowledged for their efforts.
For students making POOR CHOICES the following consequences
apply ~

Bullying is when a student or group

keep picking on another student. They
try to hurt them physically or
emotionally.
The
behaviour
is
deliberate and repeated.

STEP 1
Student refuses to follow directions.
Verbal warning.
STEP 2
Student still refuses to follow directionsIn-class consequence e.g. Time Out
STEP 3
Student still refuses to follow directionsOut-of-class consequence e.g. Buddy
Class.
STEP 4
Student still refuses to follow directionsRED CARD is sent to the office.
Parents will be requested to attend
school.

SUSPENSION
Students will be immediately
suspended for verbal abuse of
staff and/or violence towards
staff or students.

RE-ENTRY FOLLOWING
SUSPENSION
Students returning from
suspension must be
accompanied by an adult and
will attend the Intervention
Centre (Room 20) where an
Individual Behaviour
Management Plan will be
developed and implemented.

A fight or disagreement between

equal students is not bullying.
HOW TO STOP BULLYING

Tell an adult, it is not dobbing to

ask for help. Both victim and
those bullying will be counselled
and supported.
Do not be a by-stander; if you
witness bullying try to stop it or
report it.
IF YOU ARE BULLYING

Step 1: Warning
Step 2: In school isolation and
counselling at recess and lunch,
parents will be notified
Step 3:
For continued breaches
students will be suspended.
