From the Desk of Fr. Underwood:

Marriage It Makes a Difference Marriage is
a gift from God to men, women, children, and
society. In marriage, a husband and wife form
an exclusive and lifelong bond, forge a shared
financial future, promise to take care of each
other in sickness and health, and provide a
stable and loving home for any children they are
blessed with. Marriage is the foundation of the
family, which is the primary place where we all
learn to love and be loved, to live in community with others, and to care
for the most vulnerable (e.g. children, the elderly, the sick). During this
World Marriage Week (Feb 7-14, 2015), please pray for the strength and
holiness of marriages and families. [usccb.org]
World Day for Consecrated Life was celebrated in the Church
on Monday, February 2, 2015 and will be celebrated in parishes on the
weekend of February 7-8, 2015. Please pray for all those who have made
commitments in the consecrated life, and be sure to thank them on their
special day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond
generously to God's gift of their vocation.

The Bells of St. Lawrence: A few people have noticed that the bells have
not been chiming in the bell tower at Church. Since last November, the
computerized bell system has been inoperable. Recently, a technician
from Verdin Bell Company was here and declared that the main
computerized controller was DEAD. It has served us well and lived past
normal life expectancy. A new system and amplifier is needed and will
cost around $7,200. Fortunately, about half of that money was raised at
our fundraiser. If you would like to contribute towards the rest, please
mark your checks as January Fundraiser or Bell System. Hopefully
this will be up and running soon.
A Day in the Vineyard: Southwest Michigan Wine Tour with
Fr. Underwood On June 6, 2015, we will be taking a bus trip to
Southwest Michigan for lunch and tours of 4 wineries. The bus will leave
at 8:30am and return around 8:30pm. The cost is $150 per person and
includes a very good lunch at Tabor Hill Winery, Executive Coach
Transportation, Wine Tasting Fees, Etched Logo Glasses, Chocolate and
Cheese Pairing, and an unforgettable experience!
There are only 30 spaces available on this trip and 10 have already been
reserved. Sign up at the parish office now to save your place. Payment is
required to reserve your space and all participants must be 21 or older. It
will be a wonderful time!

Marriage Moments &
Parenting Pointers
February 2015
Marriage MomentsYou have almost a week to
think about how to celebrate Valentine's Day. (Luckily,
it's before Lent so chocolate is a possibility. J) Better
yet, choose one favor a day to surprise your beloved
with. Your love is a daily act, not just one day a year.
Parenting Pointer Next Wednesday is Ash
Wednesday which begins Lent. But before Lent
comes Tuesday, Feb. 17, Mardi Gras. I guess it is
human nature to want to splurge before taking on a
sacrifice. Decide a family penance for Lent, but plan
a family treat for next Tuesday.

THE FAMILY THAT WORKS, PRAYS AND PLAYS TOGETHER

Join Fr. Duquaine starting on February 17th in the

parish hall, as we begin a 33-day preparation for
Marian Consecration. The program follows the
Marian insights of St. Louis de Montfort,
St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa,
and St. John Paul II. They'll teach us the secrets
to drawing closer to the Heart of Jesus through
the Heart of Mary.
In our weekly meetings, Tuesdays from 7-8:30pm,
we'll share our insights within our small groups
and then watch a 30-minute video by popular
author and speaker, Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC.
The Consecration to Mary will happen
March 25th, the Solemnity of the Annunciation,
after the 6:30pm evening Mass.
The cost is $30 for the materials. Register no
later than February 13 at the St. Lawrence Parish
Office at (765) 742-2107.

National Marriage Week (Feb. 7-14) is a great time to celebrate the blessing of marriage
to our world and to our Church. The celebration of National Marriage Week in the
United States began in 2002 and grew out of Marriage Week International. World
Marriage Day, held the second Sunday of February each year, was started in 1983 by
Worldwide Marriage Encounter. This annual observance encourages groups to strengthen individual marriages
and build a stronger marriage culture which in turn helps lessen poverty and benefits children.
We will have a special blessing for all couples at the Masses this weekend, Feb. 7 & 8.
Other ideas to help you celebrate National Marriage Week are listed below:
Visit www.foryourmarriage.org, www.portumatrimonio.org and
www.marriage:uniqueforareason.org recommended by the United States Conference of Catholic
Bishops (USCCB).
The website for National Marriage Week offers ideas for building up your own marriage,
recommended reading, supporting marriage in community and more.
Spend a little time dedicated to prayer and reflection by participating in a seven-day virtual retreat
focused on marriage (www.foryourmarriage.org).
Plan to participate in our upcoming marriage enrichment series: Six Dates for Catholic Couples
beginning in March. Watch the bulletin for more details.
