SYNOPSIS

In principle, with Web services, application creation is simply a matter of

finding and selecting the right services and composing them into a solution.
However, current techniques do not address the problem of selecting the best or
even a desirable service from among those matching a given interface. We propose
an approach wherein middle agents serve as proxies for Web services to assist an
application in selecting implementations that best match the quality criteria of the
application. This approach supports the dynamic and potentially optimal selection of
services and supports the natural formation of communities of agents helping each
other evaluate the same services. This approach gets us close to vision of
autonomic computing, wherein computational resources are self managing and selfconfiguring. A prototype of this system is under development and evaluation.

1.1

EXISTING SYSTEM:

Web services promise the creation of loosely coupled application to

application communication over the WWW. Each service interface is described using
a declarative XML language and communicate via standard XML messaging. XML
registries available on the Web allows consumers of services to locate the correct
service that they need as well as concrete implementation of that service for their
consumption. Semantic information is also being added to the description of
services with initiatives such as, these allows agents to reason about the services as
they are discovered and therefore perform runtime decision that are currently the
realm of Web service application designer. Missing in these new standards and
initiatives is a principled approach to select services implementing known or widely
used interfaces as well as providing feedback on chosen services thus enabling the
Web service consumers to filter out good services from the bad ones.

2.2 PROPOSED SYSTEM:

We propose a solution to this problem of selecting services by using middle or

proxy agents that Web service applications instantiate for each service they plan to
use. The proxy agent is configured with the interface of the service that it will proxy
as well as the preferences of its principal and references to agencies that it will
participate in with other proxy agents. We are essentially mimicking social decision
making with our architecture.
Once a service selection is made, the proxies collect feedback information on
usage and make this information available to the current client for future usage as
well as the agencies so that other proxies can factor the feedback into future
decisions. Feedback is either automated by the proxy by monitoring of the clients
usage of the service or semi-automated by requiring the user to provide feedback
aggregated from the service semantic information provided by its DAML-S profile for
instance.
