ABSTRACT:

If one can accelerate the local wind

speed by capturing and concentrating the
wind with some mechanism, there appears
the hope for utilizing the wind power in a
more effiecient way.
By the usage of a short convergent
nozzle, the velocity of the wind can be
increased and thus causing the wind to cross
over the blades of the wind mill turbine,
with the increased velocity causing the wind
turbine to rotate at the considerably
increased speed and this inturn will increase
the efficiency of the wind turbine.
Hence the efficiency of the wind
turbine can be increased by this method.
In order to make greater utilization
of the renewable energy sources, this turbine
can be accompanied by methods of power
generation from the sun and the tide, so that
the efficiency of power generation could be
increased to a greater extent.

INTRODUCTION:

The power being the backbone of

every economy, it is necessary for every
country to be self suffiecient in the power
generation.
every industry runs only by holding
electricity as its main food. Even the
automobiles were coming nowadays in
electricity in order to reduce the
consumption of fossil fuels.
hence it is necessary to find efficient
methods of power generation.

NEED
FOR
THE
RENEWABLE
SOURCES OF ENERGY:

Currently, the world depends mainly

on the fossil fuels for the power generation.
Fuels like petroleum, lignite, coal being the
major fossil fuels used for power generation.
These fuels causes large scale
pollution resulting in global warming, green
house effects and many ill effects.
Moreover, the fossil fuels are being the nonrenewable resources, they are available only
in limited amounts.

More than 70% of indias imports

being the petroleum products, we are paying
a large amount of money to foreign nations
in requirement of power.
Hence, it is highly necessary to find
various methods of power generation using
the conventional sources of energy,
popularly known as the renewable energy
sources.

RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES:

Renewable energy sources are

natural resources which can be regenerated
continuously and are inexhaustible. They
can be used again and again in an endless
manner.

wind into the electrical energy using the

wind turbines, which includes wind mills
and wind farms.
WORKING MECHANISM OF TIDAL
POWER GENERATION:

The tidal power generation includes

the conversion of the kinetic energy of the
sea waves into the electrical energy.

USING WIND ENERGY:

Continuity equation states that when

a fluid flows through any passage, the rate
of flow (q) remains constant irrespective of
the area of the cross section (a). Hence,
when the area of cross section increases, the
velocity decreases and when the area
decreases, the velocity of flow increases
such that the discharge remains constant.

MODIFIED WIND TURBINE:

Modified wind turbine is the hybrid

type of wind turbine which includes the
triple mode of power generation using the
wind, solar and the tidal power.
WORKING MECHANISM OF SOLAR
POWER GENERATION:

The solar power generation includes

various methods of utilizing the light energy
and the heat energy from the sun and
converting them into electrical energy usind
solar pv plates and panels.

By using a short convergent nozzle

in front of the wind turbine, the air flowing
through the wind turbine can be
concentrated and accelerated such that the
velocity of the air flow increases.

WORKING MECHANISM OF WIND

POWER GENERATION:

Thus, causing the accelerated air to

pass through the wind turbine which inturn
causes the turbine rotor to rotate at the
increased speed.

The wind power generation involves

the conversion of the kinetic energy of the

Thus, the efficiency of the wind

turbine could increased easily.
But do to the formation of the
boundary layer across the convergent nozzle
over the wind turbine, this disturbs the
equilibrium across the curved surface area of
the nozzle.
The nozzle is to be designed in such
a way that the boundary layer formed should
be neutralized across the curved surface area
by the kinetic energy of the air itself.
This is the mechanism in which the
wind turbine functions.
The formation of the boundary layer
across the curved surface area of the turbine
is shown in the figure.

Since, the convergent portion is

used, the kinetic energy of the water could
be greatly increased and the power can be
generated with greater efficieny.
This arrangement for the generation
of the power from the tide, have to the
connected below the arrangement which was
designed in the generation of power from
the wind.
This combined arrangement have to
be made to float over the water in the sea
shore or in the river streams such that it
could generate power from the water current
as well as from the wind simultaneously.
The wind circulation would always
be higher near the sea shore and hence, this
type of modified wind could be able to
generate more power when compared to the
conventional wind mills or wind farms.
in order to make this system more
efficient, the system is being accompanied
also with the arrangement of power
generation using the sun also.

USING TIDAL ENERGY:

The same mechanism can also be

used in harvesting the power from tide of the
seas, in hydroelectric power plants, dams,
river streams, etc.
Water is around 840 times more
denser than air, possess 840 times more
kinetic energy than that of air.
Hence, the turbine with the same
convergent nozzle arrangement can be used
under the water and the generation of
electricity could be possible.

USING SOLAR ENERGY:

The solar photovoltaic cells have to be
placed over the floating column of the system
such that the system could generate power from

the solar radiations and convert the heat and

light energy into the electrical energy.
since the floating column of the system

possess more surface area, it could be utilized

more efficiently and more amount of power
could be generated using this system.

The system consists of the three portions

namely the top portion consisting of the
power generation setup from the wind
energy, the bottom inverted portion
consisting of the power generation setup
from the tidal energy and the base consisting
of the power generation setup from the sun.
The base also consisits of the necessary
arrangement for the floating of the entire
system.

CONCLUSION:

Since, the conventional sources of

energy are declining in the amount of
availabaility, it is highly demanding to seek
for the new and emerging technologies to
harvest the renewable sources of energy.
this type of modified wind turbine
setup involves a greater enhancement in the
amount of energy harvested as well as the
efficiency of the power generator.
