How to write a Screenplay….

The fundamental rules to writing a screenplay are quite simple: first you need a story;
secondly, you need to establish characters; thirdly, you need to write 90 to 120 pages
minimum; and lastly, the most important rule of writing a screenplay is to make your
movie cheap. Below is an example from my screenplay “Breakaway,” I hope you will
write your story into a screenplay and you never know I may be the one to purchase your
movie. Also, very important, the font must be Courier or Courier New and the size must
be 12 no smaller or larger.

FADE IN:

INT. BEDROOM – NIGHT

Olivia, early twenties, lies in the bed. SNORING, nearby, it

is her husband; she reaches over to her nightstand. Her right
eye is swollen; a LARGE bruise circulates her eye.

INT. BATHROOM – NIGHT

Olivia turns on the light and closes the door lightly

without making a sound. She opens the medicine cabinet and
reaches for ointment to stop the swelling.

INT. CHILDREN’S ROOM – NIGHT

Olivia enters her children’s room and immediately hurries to

the closet. Two packed suit cases wait. She walks to the
bed and uncovers the blanket. A boy, eight, and girl, six,
lie in the bed dead asleep.

ELAINE
Mommy, what’s happening?

OLIVIA
Sweetheart, we have to go.
Wake your brother for me
while I get your shoes.

Seconds later, Elaine grabs her pillow from underneath her

and hits her brother over the face.
